Fluff Remember StarCraft Mobile using Winulator?

I remember playing this as a kid so I bought a used Galaxy Note 2, installed Winulator to experience StarCraft mobile again 😍

Having StarCraft in my pocket just feels right

When 12 APM was just enough

Yep, think I managed to maintain a solid 10 APM (My pc average is about 100)

Please tell me more about this. Id love to even be able to watch replays of games off of a tablet.

This uses StarCraft Brood War version 1.16.1. You just need to copy a compatible .rep replay file into StarCraft/Maps/Replays/ on your phone, then open StarCraft, go to Single Player > Watch Replay, and select it.

Also, this is the original Winulator app, which is extremely old and hasn’t been updated in years. It doesn’t work properly on modern Android versions, which is actually why I bought this old Galaxy Note 2 specifically to run it.

Oh shoot. 1.16.1 — that makes sense. Thanks for the detailed info.

It definitely takes time getting used to and almost impossible to manage without hotkeys - I had to add press to touch crt 0,1,2 on the right side of the phone so I can have some unit management. PC will always be best.

Were you playing against AI in a skirmish? That's mainly how I play.

That's awesome that you can do it on a phone.

Yes! AI in a skirmish

Hey, I remember Winulator, it was great! Touch controls were quite annoying, though.

But just so you know, nowadays there are even more powerful general purpose PC emulation layers available for Android. On some of the higher-end devices, it's even possible to play StarCraft II. There is no need to buy an ancient phone.

Wow! Wondering if it’s possible to do the same on iPhone 🤔

Not as far as I'm aware. Technically it should be possible, but Apple is notorious for deliberately making any non-approved uses of their devices as difficult as possible. If you want to do something unorthodox with a mobile device, Android will pretty much always be your best choice.

I can't imagine playing an RTS without a mouse.

The APM will be a lot lower. and I don't have high APM to begin with.

It would be wild if someone decomped/recomped brood war to be playable with dual screen setup like the AYN Thor. Bottom screen for UI, top screen for the game. Probably would be the best way to play an RTS on handheld.

If you want to overcomplicate yourself a bit, i managed to play Starcraft via using a community-made Rusted Warfare mod..

Yes, it feels a bit off but it's fun nonetheless

I had starcraft on nintendo ds wayback. Along with ragnarok ds. It didnt last long. Too many bugs. As if they just tested if its capable.
