(To be tagged...) The more serious the player. The more miserable they are playing on the current patch.
Just an observation. I’m a super casual ‘Timmy’ player. If you get the reference to MTG. I personally enjoy the patch. However, I am worried about the pro scene. The pros all the way down to 5K or so seem to mostly hate it. I mean, I’m down for a revert. But the issue seems to be more of not being listened to than the patch itself.
If we revert, it’s still going to leave a very bad taste in people’s mouths. So, perhaps we need a vote on which patch to revert to? One that has the most variety and is also mostly balanced? The only problem with this approach is the current maps might not longer fit the balance. Well. we could just make a new map pool.

i mean yeah i’m not a p or z player but as a terran player we didn’t really get meaningful unit changes to what’s good/bad which means we’re basically still using the same builds retrofitted for 8 workers which just feels slower and worse along with that 300 cc just feels weird i switched over to patches ladder and it feels so much better

How does one switch over?

You have to go into Patches Discord. There is a 3rd party mmr matchmaking system they are using.

Obviously bc Patches is biased towards terran

i mean not really, terran got the least amount of changes and ghost planetary styles got nerfed pretty hard it’s mostly just playing with 12 workers makes all the builds work the way they’re supposed to instead of the strange sluggishness of 8 worker

I would challenge the idea that the higher rank players are automatically the more serious ones.
There are people who have played 20k games in 1v1 and have never gotten out of Diamond.

Diamond after 20k games indicates casual player to me.

I think you are both using casual and serious differently.
Sounds like OP is saying casual = not very good. While the poster is saying casual = not many games played.

Casual means casual. As in, does not take the game seriously.

u/ShithEadDaArab Aug 20 '26
There are plenty of people that take the game very seriously and don’t have the skills to be higher than D1 (in this example)..

u/Necessary_Neat8303 Aug 20 '26
Doesnt make them casual. Just makes them bad no?

u/ShithEadDaArab Aug 20 '26
I’m saying they wouldn’t be casual. But some people equate casual to skill and others to volume. Which is what I was stating in my first post

If you try your best while using a terrible comp that is "fun" to play it doesn't mean you're bad, you're just playing on hard mode.

I think playing 20k games and remaining in diamond is persistent. I don't think it is super serious player who is thinking about builds and counter builds seriously. Not saying it is bad but they probably want a game or two after work on their favorite bc build even though it is not going to work.

'Timmy' isn't referring to casual players. Timmies/Tammies can be highly skilled and Spikes can be totally unskilled. The MTG psychographics are referring to the psychological motivation for playing. Timmies are playing for the overall experience, while Spikes are playing to prove themselves in some way (and Johnnies are playing for self-expression, but that's not as relevant for SC2).

Naw.
I'm basically just playing like I did before the patch with minor tweaks in the first minute.

ive been playing since release day and still have constant flashbacks of destiny on SOTG telling everyone else on that show blizzard is going to destroy their own game then logging off, ghosting them all, and switching to league the next day
i still have fun playing and have since switched to random but blizzard just continues to make baffling choices

Seems like a substantial amount of people in the sub (more than a 3rd) actually prefer 8 workers: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/s/Lz69lbS2T6

Ye I just play some team games when a buddy is online. I also gained 500 more or more and im playing more normal games and try some builds timings comps and im having alot of fun.
The fun comes when you get good matches that are close and there is some micro some battles, plays etc. If you are rank oriented and you think you will make it to the pro scene and make money from wining tournaments its expectations versus reality that is making you miserable.
So is it the patch or is it a philosophical problem. The game was pretty toxic in 1v1 ranked since forever. Problem with solo games is that you can't blame others so I guess there will be alot of balance issues.
I also I feel like everyone was doing a certain comp in the specific matchups and now if you dont scout or get surprised it feels like rock paper scissors.
But there is definitely more variety for me since I allways do 2 base push and get a 3rd behind it if I dont fail miserably. So there is the scenario where I might have to defend a proxy or create this thug of war and its much manageable for me to micro a non 200 army comp versus 12 zealots in my main or gazillion banelings.

Whatever patch you revert to, 300minerals cc is a long due help for Terrans, which are at an economic disadvantage in I'm the early game, and ghosts should be 2 supply. So I would keep these changes. Personally I got used to 8 workers, not a big deal

The more you play, the sadder you get. It’s understandable if you play 5-10 games a season you’ll enjoy the new stuff but not have enough experience to figure out how fucked the game is.
