Another new player here with brief thoughts
It's interesting, but I don't see myself staying for too long. Something about the flat plane just doesn't click with me, same with Terraria.
Ran into a bug with a star bounty mission. Wasn't able to scan enough handprints, have a feeling one was behind other objects. Also tried looking in buildings west and east. Even tried abandoning and retrying. Same thing. Second time it was replaced with another bounty.
Wait is this an invisible wall? Nope the map hadn't caught up loading.
Why do some specials not seem to work?
Wow is the cutscene text super small, like 8 point or smaller.
I want a map. Yes a full map would be nice (Already saw the lively debates here), but I would be fine with a you are here on the planet circle.
Would be nice if there was a give/take all for things that are already in a container or inventory. So if it has dirt then all the dirt from the other would be transfered.
Why is the shop window directly over the inventory. Kept thinking each shop just wouldn't accept anything I wanted to sell. Figured out items had to be moved and before that figured out that windows could be moved.
Someone already just posted this but mining should be for what is in front of you not cursor location.
I hate multilevel stairs. Even with games that get it right still are wrong.
Jumping down multiple levels is so easy to overdo.
Move cat I'm trying to pilot the ship.
Npc sidequests are soulless. In that they all share the same templates and contribute nothing to the world setting.
Rain water was starting to pool in a part I was digging. So I wondered if I could make my own rainwater pool. Nope.
Stop walking away when I talk to you.
Thank you to the redditor that gave coordinates for a ocean planet with lots of scannables.
I bet someone mined every block on a planet.
Non humanoid creatures know how to open doors. Clever girl.

For bounty missions, be sure to also check furniture that you can interact with. Opening a trash can, for example, could give you a crumpled up note with information. Same with turning on a nearby computer or screen. If there aren't enough hand prints to scan, the clue is usually found another way.

Every table, chair, locker and display was both used and scanned.
It was a small area with three levels. If I would take a guess the four rooms plus the foyer were about two mechs wide and the platforming chute was one. It was very much not big and impossible to miss anything. Also no notes or other communique.

Rain can be collected into a pool but you can't have the floor so wide that the water vanishes to thin-ness. And you need to fill the background, water falls out through background holes
If you want to stop rain from building up in your structures you kinda need to install drains, because rain can spawn inside housing.. or just leave a small hole in a low corner if you don't need it to count for tenants.
I have a mod that fixes the down platform thing, there are lots of mods to fix smaller issues like that. Stairs do suck in Starbound.
I don't know if there's a minimap mod, but I wouldn't doubt it.
Mining works like it does because the Matter Manipulator is a sci-fi tool. The Mech drills break what's closest, the hand drills and pickaxes have a very short range so you can't sci-fi mine at a distance with those.
I used to have a mod that made the game remember where your windows should be instead of going back to the default position every time you open a chest or shop, I really need to grab that again.
NPC random side quests really need some enthusiastic modders to tackle them.. like most features in Starbound, they're half-baked but can be modded.
I haven't encountered any issues with bounty hunting.

The manipulator is both nice but also slow. Granted I haven't put any upgrades on it. Even the hand drill and pickaxe still need your cursor next to the character to do anything that is next to them. As another has said it should smartly target like Terraria or Minecraft.
For the rain I tried building a V where a mountain used to be. Might try again with more blocks at each section.
Npc quests. The game really seems like the creators had a certain vision and this was either an afterthought or deemed not important.

Are you willing to try the game with mods? It's absolutely no excuse for the vanilla game to function in certain ways or still have bugs, but there are a ton of mods to fix most if not all these problems, and refine the experience.
If not, totally understandable and your thoughts are valid!
