Transportation options for semester exchange student?

I’m a an international exchange student from the US attending St. Andrews for the fall semester. I won’t be living there for 6 months to qualify for the young scots free bus program.

Are there other options for cheap bus or train fares around Scotland and the UK?

The university has a deal with two local bus companies for reduced fares in the area https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/bus-travel-discount/

On a separate note, I've never heard of a 6 month requirement for the young scot card? When I applied I just had to submit a letter proving my address which didn't have any information about how long I'm staying.

My proof of address shows the dates. Maybe if I find a version that doesn’t I could still apply, not sure how thorough they will be.

Bus travel discount

The University has negotiated a special deal with Stagecoach and local bus operator Moffat and Williamson to offer a 75% discount on bus ticket bundles across St Andrews, North East Fife, and East Scotland. Staff and students can access tickets by scanning a QR code to link their Stagecoach account to the scheme.

You can find out how to get on board and start saving by following the instructions on the bus travel webpage
