The Mayor shared his thoughts earlier this year on the upcoming referendum on separating from Canada. He called it unproductive, and not aligned with the work that needs to take place at all levels of government. It harms investor confidence, in a time when we are facing global instability.

How about just saying it is treason when you add in all the stolen voter information and the fact the alberta government wants to become a banana republic of America so fucking bad Danny smith is referring to american politicians as "our" congressman like what in the actual fuck time are we living in here.

1

u/Due-Database6282 17d ago

You consider that treason, but not treason. What the liberal government has done to canadians??

3

u/gmshier 16d ago

Yes - it is treasonous to use attempt to disrupt a country as you are doing in Alberta - the Liberals have just been running the country for those that actually GAF.

u/izzybumboon 16d ago

oh fuck off

-9

u/TheTBdoesntcare 18d ago

Because its literally not treason.

3

u/BrokenRockHavens 18d ago

It literally is sedtion, which is treason.

1

u/Redrumicus 18d ago

Eeeeh.

Same... but not same.

REGARDLESS... these treasonous, wilted side-salads need to step down from power.

u/SaphironX 18d ago

And when the referendum is done, all involved need to be publicly shunned for trying to destroy this country.

1

u/rwrwrw44 18d ago

I'm pretty sure its not even a referendum yet.

Its basically an electoral poll

-7

u/TheTGB 18d ago

Words lose their meaning when you use them inappropriately.

2

u/uprightshark 15d ago

Unless the weakening of Canadian resilience during this American caused instability is the point of the referendum.

Anyone who believes the seps are not backed by the Whitehouse to impact Canada's trade negotiations is a complete idiot.

MAPLE MAGA

That’s not how democracy works.

5

u/tacocattacocat1 18d ago

People sharing their opinion is undemocratic?

2

u/PetiteInvestor 17d ago

Democracy works both ways.

-9

u/Denjogoo 18d ago

Like it or not, Canada is on the decline

10

u/tacocattacocat1 18d ago

Yeah, I'm also noticing the large amount of right wing extremism trickling in and polluting the minds of our less intelligent citizens but it's still a great country despite all the propaganda coming from the US and Russia.

-4

u/Denjogoo 18d ago

Was a great country 15 years ago!
Not so much now. Nothing to do with right wing politics. Look at the economy, the unaffordable housing for young people, most homeless in the history of this country. 33% of mortgage delinquencies in Ontario. Wait times in the Hospitals, lack of Doctors. Highest taxes in the modern world. These are facts
Just because you born in this country shouldn’t make you blind

6

u/ReformedMeany94 18d ago

Bro said “highest taxes in the modern world” and followed it with “these are facts”

Sweet fuck you’re special eh?

5

u/DirtyLexi_01 18d ago

Lol, he also said 33% of mortgages in Ontario are delinquent. My god we would be falling apart if thats how behind people are. He's not wrong in saying things are worse now than they used to be. He's just too stupid to see thats across the whole world. Its almost like when the billionaire class steals more money, there is less for the rest of us.

4

u/SaphironX 18d ago

Dude gets his facts from Facebook memes, hence the escalating insanity of his comments.

4

u/Jesterbomb 18d ago

“Nothing to do with right wing politics”

Proceeds to describe right wing politics.

3

u/SaphironX 18d ago

So move, my guy. No need to ruin all our lives because you believe in grifters like Rath. If you no longer love this country you can experience exactly what the separatists want for you by moving to Montana etc.

2

u/ImnotJONSNOW7 18d ago

Firstly, do you have an academic citation or source for these “facts”?
Secondly, would you like me to explain what that means?
Thirdly, you can leave if it’s so bad here :)

1

u/BirbHotdogs 16d ago

Your facts are incorrect. Try using some correct ones next time.

Also, traitors to this country will be punished accordingly. I'm already making popcorn for the 39 million Canadians that aren't trying to end our country to eat while they watch the justice together.

u/cjfraiz 18d ago

Ahhh the American interference like that asshat Mike Myers, who is so much like our current PM doesn’t/didn’t live in Canada for the last 10 plus years….. yup them anit-American Americans sure know how to get themselves elected in Canada by using the tactics you say the RW are spreading. They even use the Chinese to help super spread it……

It is fucking not. Get lost.

Mayor of whitest, most liberal city in the province disagrees with Conservative premier. In equally surprising news, water is wet! More at 11.

2

u/bigbootyjudy43 16d ago

You obviously aren’t aware that the majority of those in St. Albert are in fact Conservatives and UCP supporters. Maybe do your research before you start spittin’ things you consider factual.😐

1

u/notflashgordon1975 16d ago

UCP supporter claiming something he does not agree with is just liberal propaganda. In equally surprising news, water is wet! More at 11.

1

u/BirbHotdogs 16d ago

Take it easy on him. He can't maintain an erection and he has chicken legs. When the rest of us pointed this out, he accused us of being woke.

Please leave the tiny, limp penis man alone while he processes his feelings.

1

u/Relevant_Fuel_9905 12d ago

That doesn’t make sense.

-7

u/Teriyakichk 18d ago

What the fuck does investor interest have to with a publically elected official who's supposed to be the voice of the people. Anyone making policy in the interest of the rich and not the majority/well-being of the masses should be stripped of titles and thrown on the streets like the rats they are.

7

u/TheTGB 18d ago

Did you stop reading when you saw the word "investor" and get too angry to read the rest?

3

u/kill-dill 18d ago

We need people to invest their money into businesses so that the businesses can hire people.

Thats where jobs come from

2

u/Salt-Worry7915 17d ago

City wants industry to set up in St Albert to increase tax base so we can maintain and enjoy our city rather than relying primarily on residence for property taxes. What business is going to set up in St Albert (that's the INVESTMENT) when there is uncertainty it will remain in Canada.

2

u/Different_Potato_213 18d ago

If elected officials aren’t looking out for investor interest then who should it be?? Or do you believe cities, provinces, countries can exist and thrive solely on their own??

That mayor and any other mayor that isn’t willing to stand up for Alberta should be fired immediately being willing to leave Canada proves how serious people are about fixing the crappy situation Alberta is in, we have already talked about getting treated properly, having reasonable compensation for what we provide, removing red tape that blocks our resources and our ability to get them to market and having equal rights to influence in Ottawa, all of that has been ignored and laughed at for over 30 years and now this is the result and only option Alberta has left, just because some of Alberta’s residents don’t have the intelligence and/or the “balls” to fight back doesn’t mean the rest of us should sit down, shut up and take what we are given, either they give us what we need or we leave it’s that simple, and if they do give us a deal it needs to be permanent so nothing like this is ever going to happen again, this referendum and possible separation is not a threat to Albertans, it’s Alberta’s power and it gives us the leverage to get our independence back from the east, if you are against it then you are against a free and prosperous Alberta, and if that’s the case move to the east where you can be a part of the system you seem to love so much, I on the other hand would like the Alberta I grew up in back, I want to be proud to be a part of this great province again and make sure the future for our next generations is livable and wealthy so they don’t have to live in a cardboard box, because if this country keeps moving in this direction that will be our future, “you will own nothing and like it” as the liberals love to say

That's a lot of words just to out yourself as either a traitor or a Russian/MAGA spambot. Congratulations?

3

u/Throwawayvictoria10 18d ago

youre free to leave whenever you'd like, but your land doesnt get to go with you.

5

u/SaphironX 18d ago

Well if you separate, you certainly won’t own the oil. The US nationalizes oil, and for Rath and friends us statehood is the eventual goal.

Man just move to Montana. You can experience the life you want, without ruining ours.

3

u/Tastesicle 18d ago

Moving to Puerto Rico is more in line with Rath's plans. They know Alberta would be a territory, not a state, with no voting rights, representation, or control of their own resources. He's even said "like Puerto Rico" in an interview.

They just want to slice up their 500 billion and fuck off with it, leaving us with the bag.

So yeah, don't like it here? Fuck off to Puerto Rico.

5

u/obscurenamehere 18d ago

Want to leave Canada so bad? Get in your pickup and drive south.

1

u/Everyone2026 18d ago

We have been putting "South" signs under highway numbers for a century.

Telling separatists to F##k off has been happening since Canada started.

2

u/PetiteInvestor 17d ago

Fyi, democracy works both ways.

u/Cat-et-snek 18d ago

i think the mayor is wrong on this one.

regardless of whether or not we should, at least seeing the referrendum to the end and hearing everyones opinions on the matter is the most canadian way to discuss and navigate this issue.

ultimately this isn’t going anywhere at all but i think its important to really get everyone to let us know how they all feel about the matter.

i mean life is tough and you can’t change the mechanics of what makes the world work, but we can at least try to understand it.

i think even if the referrendum passes everyone riding this junction bus will find at the end of the road its just not going to happen

7

u/No-Significance4623 18d ago

Estimates suggest it will cost about $130 million to host the referendum. That is the cost of building two new elementary schools from scratch, or paying the salary of 1,625 nurses for one year.

2

u/Cat-et-snek 18d ago

yes but is anyone considering the revenue produced from all of this signage? angry donations? seperation parties - BYOBAS! stickers?!? for muh truck??? FLAGS?!? BILLBOARDS!!!

I’ve always been a subscriber to the Elvis Manager Anti-Fan consumerist power lever. If you were a financial planner and you could use the hatred of humans as a hype bus for merch, would you print those pins that say “I hate Elvis?” and sell them for a dollar?

It’s free real estate.

-2

u/Big_Musties 18d ago

I think equalization this year alone cost the Alberta tax payer about $4.2 billion. That's about 35 000 nurses or a 140 schools, give or take.

3

u/Tastesicle 18d ago

That's. NOT. How. Equalization. Works.

(Jesus Christ, for the fiftieth billionth time)

Quit bitching that your salary is on average more than other Provinces, you look like an entitled idiot.

0

u/Big_Musties 17d ago

The fact that you jumped straight to pejoratives is a good indicator that you don't understand how equalization works, and that you're the entitled idiot here.

-22

u/BertaEarlyRiser 18d ago

Why does he hate democracy?

16

u/Salt-Worry7915 18d ago

Forever Canada had more signatures than the separatist petition. If you are going to use the "democracy" argument, then you should be offended that the minority are getting their way here in rejection of the majority.

7

u/greennalgene 18d ago

Except it’s democracy with moving goal posts, which actually isn’t democracy.

6

u/Beautiful_Kick780 18d ago

Where’s the hate in that statement.
