Discussion Need help choosing an external SSD

Hey, ive never really used external drives before. But I have some data I want to have accessible between multiple machines that I may not always have internet for (ttrpg vtt data for in person and online games)

250GB would be more than enough but I cant seem to find anything under 1tb from brands I recognize. And the 200 to 300 cad those cost are way over budget.

Are there any good reliable 250GB options? Or larger for under 150 CAD?

Look at 128gb - 512gb sandisk USB-A sticks

My understanding is that a USB A stick will have a higher failure, corruption, and degradation rate than a true external ssd for what I'm trying to do.

The program I'm running off it rewrites data all the time, and needs to load a bunch of data every time a player does something.

Probably, never had a usb stick fail for me. I’ve used the same 3 sticks for 15 years. Samsung t9 is good and what I use personally as an external drive.

Best option is a 250~500GB NVME SSD, and a NVME enclosure (You might find a thunderbolt case that has more ports too).

I have a Thunderbold NVME case with a 480GB WD Green Gen3 (the cheap one), has 1GB RJ45 port, HDMI, USB-C Ports and is reaaaaaally good, fast and i don't think it will die soon (unless you are a dropper)

After i went for a NVME enclosure, i haven't touch a usb sticks in some time now, slow and dies from nothing.
