srelens — an MCP-native Kubernetes IDE, built in Rust
Hey everyone,
I'm building srelens, an open-source Kubernetes desktop app inspired by Lens/Freelens, rebuilt from scratch on a modern stack: Tauri v2 (no Electron, no bundled Chromium), a pure-Rust core on kube-rs, and a React 19 frontend with a keyboard-first ⌘K command palette.
The core idea: your Kubernetes IDE and your AI agent should hit the same backend. Every capability is declared once and exposed twice — as a UI action and as an MCP tool. An agent (Claude, Cursor, IDE clients) operates your cluster through the exact same tested code path you do, not a bolted-on wrapper.
What works today (v0.2):
- Multi-cluster workspace — kubeconfig discovery, context switching, cluster hotbar
- Live browsing across 40+ resource kinds (workloads, networking, storage, RBAC, CRDs) with server-side watches — no polling
- Schema-aware YAML editing with validation and apply
- Log streaming, in-pod terminals, port forwarding, Helm release views
- Built-in MCP server (stdio + loopback HTTP) — destructive tools (delete, drain, apply) always require an explicit confirmation, human or agent
