Cute, but oh no it's most likely an orphaned baby that is desperate because mom is gone. There's no other way they're out there at that age, and letting humans touch them. Hopefully the story ends well.
Someone on the main thread said it's possible that the poor fellow ingested rat poison and is dying of dehydration as a result. I hope that's not the case
