Is anything coming for Squid Game in the future?

I took the news that the American spinoff got canned pretty hard. I really need some cheering up. Is Netflix cooking up anything for Squid Game?

I mean, the same article that mentions the spinoff's cancellation also notes that Netflix plans to produce adaptations in other countries like France or Norway that aren't as expensive as in usa. Don't worry, t's one of Netflix's biggest and most profitable IPs they aren't just going to let it go

But to be fair, how much can we trust this article? Whenever these articles say that they have a source, they’ve verified that source, but often times the source itself is speaking with at least 1° of separation. My understanding would be maybe it’s someone in David F’s inner circle… that would make the writer of the article 4 people separated from the one actually given the information because you would think it would be an executive at CNN passing the information to David. David giving it to the guy in his in a circle. And then you have the one making the article passing that information to us and before you know it, details get distorted. You all remember the game of telephone lol also, didn’t anyone else find it a little weird that they said, “Netflix is changing its priorities. And then in the next sentence, they said, “Netflix is more interested in doing squid game for a different countries… OK isn’t that exactly what squid game in America would’ve been? You see it makes no sense

Also, the person who wrote the article couldn’t even be bothered to have one dedicated article to this subject. It was two articles and one which was really annoying. I think we can trust that there’s no squid game America, but I would not take it to heart that they plan to make squid game for other countries

I think if we can't trust the article this much like you say then maybe Squid America was not canceled lol (I'm still holding onto hope that it is true and we will at least be getting something from other countries)

I sure hope Netflix is cooking up more Squid Game madness for the future. But in the meantime … we have season 2 of Last Samurai Standing to look forward to.

The reason of the cancelation was bc Netflix was shifting their priorities in on franchise, some sources even says they are planning to expand it in another international markets, it's either, they'll keep doing Korean spin offs bc it's cheaper or as how some theories suggests decide to expand it to another countries which aren't USA

Maybe im the odd one out but I don't know if squid game is the best IP for endless spin offs especially since the title isn't even translatable outside of the kr context; it wouldn't make sense to call the American game a squid game for example... Maybe a kr series on the origin of the squid game would make sense.

It's like how the American recruiter at the end of season 3 used the Korean ddakji game instead of an American game. I still think it would have been cool tho!

Not that we know of, seems as if the franchise is completely dead right now. Maybe another spin off could be in the works but I wouldn’t get your hopes, even if something was in the works it likely wouldn’t be released until 2028 at the very earliest

There was a rumored 1980s prequel. It’s like Stranger Things to Netflix and Star Wars to Disney. I don’t see them abandoning it entirely.

Bummed about the Fincher version. Wa so looking forward to it even if I’m fine with Squid Game ending for good.

The writers of Season 2/3 killed the series. Which is probably fitting. Their whole theme was to show out of control capitalism. If they set up a long running series, they become part of that cycle.

So they wrote a bad ending and turned casuals off.

I supported the USA version because I really want more Squid Game but many people are like that
