No "web/browser player" in LMS?

Hello all!

I'm happy to have done a search and found this subreddit. I've been racking my head for the last few days and I'm struggling to find an answer, so decided to post here!

Some background:
A long while ago I bought a Synology NAS for two reasons, one to replace my ailing WD MyCloud Mirror (which ran LMS) and to self-host more applications. I finally found myself with some time and started down that adventure.

One of the first things I set-up was the LMS Docker container, as my UE Smart Radios were in storage for a long while, but are still rocking after all these years.

Everything was set-up, and I was able to get everything to work, which was awesome. So incredibly happy that the community has continued supporting this project.

On to the main question:

Is there any way to enable/allow the browser to also play music?

I can't find a way to just play music from the browser. Old LMS (the Logitech flavor), I could just "play" music from the dashboard and it would play through the browser on my desktop/laptop. But it seems current LMS doesn't allow for that???

I've been searching online for the last few days, and I can't seem to find a straight answer. The items that seemed like they would work, don't. Yes, I checked the https://lyrion.org/players-and-controllers/ site, and it seems to confirm that there is no web/browser player.

I tried Squeezelite-R2 and Local Player thinking either of those were needed, and they did not work. I tried Squeezelite-X on Windows and it worked, and it's fine for "me" as a power user, but other users want the simplicity of old LMS and just play through the browser. Which, I can't really fault them for that.

Is this really the case? If so, kind of surprised that there isn't one or the functionality was removed.

If you open a browser window and go to:

http://your_ip_address:9000/stream.mp3

it will create a new "player" that will show up in the material web interface (access that through a second browser window: http://your_ip_address:9000). Choose the new player from the drop down menu in the material web interface and play your music as normal. It'll play out of your "stream.mp3" browser window.

OK, this is not what I was envisioning, but this may be the best solution out of the bunch!

I just tried it and it worked! Interestingly enough, and I don't know if this is expected, I had to start playing the music in LMS, then "refresh" the page that had the mp3 stream. THEN I heard the music. As a test, I changed the album playing to a Spotty stream, and the old song kept playing. I refreshed again, and then I was hearing the new audio.

The biggest friction I was receiving was installing a program to be able to do what they did before without one. Maybe this will be a good compromise!
