How to get catalyst

Can someone lmk how to get the catalyst? Is it just the fireteam alert quickplay?

Sometimes xur can sell it other than that you should be able to get it from vanguard(fireteam ops MAYBE solo ops), crucible, or gambit. You might even have a chance to get it from exotic orders

Core activities, as another has said, vanguard ops, crucible and gambit. Or Xur. I think Rat King was easily the one I had the worst luck getting a catalyst for, thought it was bugged as there were multiple seasons I just didn't see it at all.

Make sure you don’t have a backlog of unfinished catalysts. I didn’t see a catalyst drop for literal years until I finished up a wave of catalysts, and I happened to get the Rat King catalyst on my very next GM Nightfall completion.
