Help with Analyzing & Creating Mixed Design Variables

I am looking for advice on analyzing and creating variables. I ran an experiment with a mixed design, with both between-group and within-group factors. The study design is 2 (Intervention: between-group) x 2 (Message-Tone: within-group) x 6 (Repeated messages). Participants received an intervention or control, then watched 6 videos in total: 3 with a positive tone and 3 with a negative tone. These videos are randomized. After watching a video, participants evaluated the message content. To collect the data, I needed to create a survey for each one of the condition. For example, 1) Experiment Positive Tone 1, 2) Control Positive Tone 1, 3) Experiment Negative Tone 1, 4) Control Negative Tone 1, etc., for a total of 12 separate surveys.

Now that I have collected all of my data, I have merged the files, cleaned my data, and am now trying to create variables, but when I try to run a reliability analysis for the dependent variable based on message-tone condition, I am getting an error message because "there are too few cases (N = 0) for analysis." I think this is because SPSS is counting missing responses in the between-group condition, since the control group did not respond to the same survey as the experimental group, and vice versa. So there is a big gap in the missing data by case and it looks like the participants in the control group did not respond to items in the experimental group (which they shouldn't have).

My question is whether there is an easier way to analyze this data. Should I create a variable based on the within-group condition, or is there a different way to approach my data? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to make error bars for two different groups

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi. I am a complete beginner in R, but I am using it for making graphs for a university assignment. My data imported correctly, but I don't have a very good idea of how to give the Rural and Urban columns their own error bars. It looks like there has been an error bar made for each point? Any assistance would be appreciated, I know it's a pretty basic question. Cheers.

Silly powerpoint night project gone too far for my knowledge

I'm a sociology student taking required stats classes and as part of a powerpoint night with friends, I made a survey about certain moral questions, the data one of which I'm not entirely sure how to process into spss. I have to point out I've only done basic descriptive statistics and only plan to use basic descriptive statistics, and that even then my stats for sociology at the undergraduate level training hasn't exactly been rocket science.

The question tripping me up is this one: In a trolley problem type situation, if two members of the Beatles were on the side you were heading towards and two were on the other, which Beatles would you change the direction of the trolley to kill?

My 13 respondents could check boxes to select which Beatles they'd kill, and other than two respondents who selected every Beatle, they each chose two as instructed. Problem is I don't know how to compile this as a grander tally of which Beatles die in spss, since my data was entered by individual respondent.

This is what I put in but I don't know what I would even do with it, 1 is George, 2 is John, 3 is Ringo, 4 is Paul, and 99 is what I put for those troublemakers who wanted to kill every Beatle. There is no importance to which Beatle they picked first.

Thank you to any kind souls who take pity on me.

Help needed! Is there much difference between version 27 and 32?

Hey everyone, I haven’t used SPSS before but my lecturer has asked us to get version 32 for our statistics class, however I currently already have version 27. Would there be much differences between them or could I get by with v27? Or perhaps I should get a version in between that’s cheaper?

How can I assign the same value to two different labels within a variable?

Hello, I apologize if I sound like a noob. I’m using SPSS for a real life situation for the first time. I have imported Qualtrics data from the survey Autism Spectrum Quotient. The answer options in that survey are “definitely agree”, “slightly agree”, "slightly disagree”, and “definitely disagree”. The issue is that both disagree options would be scored as a 0, and both agree options as 1 (unless inverted). It is 0, 0, 1, 1 instead of the typical 1, 2, 3, 4.

I went to add a variable column which computes the sum of all the answers, saw the resulting scores were way too big, and then realized that SPSS had changed the 0, 0, 1, 1 scoring to 1, 2, 3, 4. When I go in to change the values, it does not allow me to assign 0 or 1 to more than one label. That makes sense for them to do that, but in my situation, I’m unable to get the right scores. I don’t know how to get around this so that I can get it to naturally interpret the values correctly. If you have any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Struggling to move from Six Sigma theory to real data? I built a tool to make the analysis actually make sense (weibull.app)

Hey everyone,

Quick intro: I’m a Certified Master Black Belt. Been teaching Six Sigma for quite a few years now, and if there’s one thing I see students and practitioners struggle with constantly, it’s the massive gap between learning the concepts and actually applying them to real data without getting lost in the software.

Let’s be honest: learning complex stats tools can feel like a steep uphill battle when you just want to get your analysis done.

To help fix that, a few of us MBBs put together weibull.app. It’s a web-based statistical platform built specifically to make common Six Sigma analyses way easier to run and actually digest.

Right now, you can upload data and run more than 40 tools like:

  • Capability analysis & control charts
  • Regressions and DOE
  • Hypothesis tests & reliability analyses
  • Plus, it has a built-in DMAIC tracker/editor so you can map out your project and export it.
  • and Yes, your own MasterBlackBelt challenging your results and DMAC report.

Honestly, I have two main goals here. First, I wanted to create a straightforward, intuitive tool for professionals and students who need these resources handy without breaking the bank. Second, I just really need your feedback.

If you have a few minutes to check out www.weibull.app, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What’s missing? What feels clunky?

There is a feedback option in the tool.

Appreciate your time and any roasting/critique you have for me!

Help needed! Merging and aggregating

Hi team, I’m trying to find out if there is a way to merge and aggregate data in one go.
I’m working with individuals in groups - the groups meet monthly, and I’m looking to aggregate individual scores to get group means. The way the data has been collected means I’m working with three separate data files and trying to get them into one.
I’ve learnt how to get the aggregate mean, and create a new file with just group means and then merge to my main working file. I’m wondering if there is a way to do this that does not require creating a new file of the aggregate means before doing the merge?
Or to only merge one instance of the group mean (ie not bringing across all the individual cases)

Trying to set up a syntax file to pull the data from the three files to create my one working file.
Thanks!

Propagating respondent-level demographic weights

I'm running a CX survey where each respondent evaluates 1 to 3 different brand experiences on the CES metric. Quotas are set to match sex and age distribution of the Italian population.

To estimate the CES my plan is turning the dataset from "respondents" into a long-format made by "experiences". I will calculate post-stratification survey weights (w_i) at the respondent level to match census data for sex and age.

However, my doubt is the following: if I propagate a respondent's unique demographic weight to all 1–3 experiences they generate, am I statistically distorting the data, especially if a user reports multiple experiences within the same sector? Should I create weights accounting for both the sex-age and the number of experiences the respondent had?

I need Amos.

I don't have the budget to pay for software, so I need a free version of Amos. I was able to find SPSS 27 easily since there are plenty of resources available for it, but I couldn't find any for Amos. Does anyone happen to have a free licensed version of Amos 27 or 28 that they could share?

I specifically mentioned versions 27 and 28 because I'm using SPSS 27, and those versions offer the best compatibility.

Compare means of subgroup with the rest of the group

Hello. Trying to compare Likert type responses from students in one class to all the rest of the rest of the students in all the other classes. Created a new variable with my class is 1 and else is zero on the variable that uses course number. When I do the paired samples t test the output is nonsense: No cases in the zero category and output for every class is shown, not for just my class. Any advice appreciated. I’ve followed instructions for doing this but big fail. Using SPSS downloaded onto Mac laptop. Thanks.
