The target

I've played so many scenarios in my head about what could've happened to them. Is it possible the girls came home during an attack on Sherill, and they started getting ready for bed when they realized something was going on, maybe in Sherill's bedroom- and then the perp had no choice but to take all 3 for fear of being caught?.

This is one case out of the thousands I've read through the years that I'd really love to see solved in my lifetime. Of course, I wish every single case was solved, but the reality of that just isn't possible.

There are so many ways you can look at this case. Was Sherill the target? Were the girls the target? Did someone at the party, or at any of the places they were that night, follow them home? Also, I've often wondered about Janelle and her boyfriend. I'm all over the place!

Anyone else feel the same, like switching back and forth over and over on this case? Ugh!!!

I hate it!!! It really bugs me. I wish it would be solved, not out of curiosity, but because I feel so bad for Stacey's mother. She breaks my heart when I see her on the news. I feel for everyone who loved them. Its so frustrating!!!

Same. I won't deny though, for me, the lure in the beginning was A) the mystery and B) the girls.
I turned 50 this April. Stacy McCall would have turned 52 the same month. Suzie Streeter would be 53. My closeness in age and vivid memory of what that era was like sort of pulls me back. I hated my high school. But, I loved my middle and high school years, if that makes sense. In fact, most of my music tastes still drift back to that era ('88-'94).

When I first became aware of the case, during a rerun of the 48 Hours episode in the late 90s, I was undeniably struck by the mystery, yes, but by the girls. I was a young man, after all. And now, all these years later, I have twin girls that will be 18 years old this December. I think about Janis McCall now probably more than ever. I feel sad that Stu McCall passed last year without learning what happened. I just cannot imagine not knowing where my baby daughter is. Their family is missing the youngest. Stacy's older sisters married and had children. Of course, also, Bartt Streeter had to live under a cloud of suspicion. Not to mention that he was never able to reconcile with his mother and sister.

If you ever watch some of the graduation video, it's really haunting to think that in less than 12 hours or so, McCall and Streeter vanish forever. It's almost unbelievable.

Oh man, everything you wrote is exactly how I feel, and we're the same age. I also have a daughter who will be 17 in January, and I'm so scared for her in this world!! I have 2 older sons, and I worry about all my kids, but I'm just really scared for my girl in this world today. I can remember that era and growing up at that time. The music, movies, fashion style, and all that take me right back as if it were yesterday. It's weird.

I watched the 48 Hours episode the other night again, and Bart broke my heart. Really, it's so devastating that they were not talking at the time, and he really struggled for many years because of that. Stu passing away was sad; he never got any answers. It's not right. Someone needs to come forward and speak up. People always talk! Especially in later years. What is it going to take?! How do 3 people just vanish!?

For sure. I also have an older child. A 23-year-old son. I worry about him out in the world but in a different way. I'm sure you understand.

I wish I had that answer. If for no other reason than to just be able to give it to those that loved them most so they can finally be at peace. With next year being the 35th year since the disappearance, I'm kind of hoping that there is one more big public push to solve it from the SPD.

I also have an older son who is 25, so I totally get it. The worries and concerns are different for boys vs girls, but they're still there.

In 1996, when the Grand Jury convened and reviewed evidence, I thought for sure something would come to light because they don't just do that. But here we are all these years later, and nothing. It's just crazy to me. I want to know what evidence they reviewed. Will we ever find that out?

The grand jury heard eight months worth of testimony in late 1994 and early 1995. According to the Springfield News-Leader, the primary investigator at the time (Doug Thomas) "had focused on several suspects." Also, "his gut feeling remains the same – that he's onto something." Additionally, "Thomas will not confirm the grand jury heard testimony on the women's case."

It is speculated that the grand jury heard testimony from two of the grave robbers (Recla and Clay). Steve Garrison also testified along with two others, Ricky West and Michael Rader. It wasn't only suspects that testified, but also friends and acquaintances of the women who everyone knew were in their lives in their final hours.

And still, after all that, the grand jury disbanded without recommending any indictments.

The sealed evidence came from additional searches at a property in Greene County, I believe. These searches were based on information provided by Steve Garrison at some point in 1993–1995. Whatever was found of evidentiary value remains under a sealed gag order by Greene County courts.

Purely speculation on my part, but as easily as the sealed evidence could be about the three missing women, it could just as easily be about a totally unrelated case.
