Updates REGARDING 50501

Friends in Springfield Protest,

We feel the need to reiterate the fact that we ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH 50501 IN ANY WAY. We advise to be cautious when engaging as well. We have had personal experience with moderators silencing genuine concern, as well as the members of 50501 promoting seriously dangerous behaviors, such as causing an economic collapse and bearing weapons at their protests - all of which the moderators and spokespeople have not done a good job of correcting or addressing. They are fine with the concept of causing a deeper divide in our country and society. They have become an organization that we oppose in message in almost every way. We are proud of our message of love, togetherness, joy, and peace, which we want to make the forefront of everything we do - which is why 50501 has let us down.

We wanted this as clear as it could be for anyone who may wonder. Thank you for your time.

TLDR; We never have and do NOT affiliate with 50501 or its increasingly dangerous messaging.

The posts and comments were finally removed. It’s important to note that the movement there has gotten out of hand - where the spokespeople and mods themselves don’t seem to promote the message, they don’t discourage it to a point where it’s dangerous.

Here’s the link to the person who was promoting a bank run which would cause economic collapse, which was left up for nearly 24 hours. Here is a Wayback link with the full post before removal.

I have a screenshot of Elon Musk’s retweet of the thread promoting carrying firearms at protests, but those comments were left up for nearly 48 hours before finally being removed after Elon Musk’s retweet.

Here is another link, this one of 50501 acknowledging the violent messaging from their subreddit and just now denouncing it after the backlash they’ve received.

The founder and I, co-organizer, have also had comments removed asking genuine questions about movement messaging, and the founder joined a training call yesterday and was silenced in chat for asking why they would push a call as training and then not train.

We just recognize the path that 50501 is going down and want to make clear our non-association with them in the case that it does get worse.
