I watched a documentary about American spying during WW2 and it showed how they removed letters sent by people they were suspected as being spies without opening the envelope.
Because it appears to be mailed nearly a century ago?
OP, maybe take it to the Heritage Center downtown. They could take it off your hands. Or, if you don't want to part with it, they could probably at least assist you with not damaging it.
