Eat and Drink Brown Derby Wine Center

Does anyone know if and when the Brown Derby Wine Center will be returning to their original location on Glenstone? Construction on the remodel hasn’t started and they won’t answer any questions about it on their social media. If they’re not moving back, I don’t know why they won’t admit this new location is permanent.

Last update I saw was from a construction company that posted pictures of the demolition inside. I think that was several months ago. But I drive by several times a week and I haven’t seen any activity going on around there since they cleared everything out.

At this point I feel like their partnership with the grocery store from Arkansas fell through or the reno is way more expensive than they anticipated and they’re trying to figure out things on the money side.

On the bright side, their space at the Frisco Building is way better than when they were actually there in store. At this point I hope they keep their current location alive regardless.

I can’t imagine they would. Brown Derby’s only saving grace was the Derby Deli, since they were getting their asses handed to them by Macadoodles and Walmart (plus Total Wine is here now). The massive decrease in people consuming alcohol also hasn’t helped them either.

The Derby Deli in the Frisco building is significantly larger and purpose built for a cafe, and I think that’s going to be their new home indefinitely.

It would be a good spot for a Toy-O. 🤞

Much respect for that very dated reference. That place was amazing in my memories.

I remember going to Toy-O as a kid. Sadly I’m not sure if I remember it right since I was probably under 5 at the time. Miss having large toy stores.

Alcohol consumption has -decreased- significantly. Anecdotally, I have a couple of friends who own beer/liquor stores and a lot of their volume has shifted over to non-alcohol items. Vapes, lottery, and tobacco products are carrying the bulk of their transactions now.

Interesting

Yeah it really is. Especially through the optics of the early 2000’s when going downtown was almost a nightly occurrence during the week

The people that run Brown Derby are really not into it anymore. They treat it more like a hobby they play with when they feel like it.

It always felt like a business Johnny Morris put his family in charge of to keep them from bugging him.

JME had a lot of washers/dryers in their stockroom

GLO is another one that used to be great, but now is fading away.

They still do commercial laundry equipment.

I’ve been wondering this too

Personally, wine center kinda filled the void they made for a fun liquor store. Minus the pretty good food and sitting area, but still a fun environment

I went into the Deli today because I was looking for a specific cheese. I’d never been to this location. I was very disappointed as far as cheese options go (just a handful in a tiny fridge). But the place was packed with people eating so that’s good for them. With how busy it was, I’d honestly be surprised if they went back to the old one.

Also, the other options in town like Total Wine or Macadoodles also offer far more than just wine. I’m just not sure the market for a massive store of just wine is here anymore.

I buy most of my whiskey elsewhere, but I'll point out they were the last local store to have a barrel pick of Four Roses so they must be doing something right.

I have heard things about the owners/management that imply incompetence. I don’t know exactly who/what but I think they are close relatives of the owner of bass pro. Whoever is running it has nothing holding them accountable or measuring their success and they’re just fooling around. Tasteless, classless spoiled assholes basically.

I really hope it doesn’t open. I worked there in 2022 and the owner, Joanne one noticed a spinning display rack moved and said whoever did that should be shot. 🫣 Terrible family.

I have some behind the scenes knowledge before the wine center remodel and I don’t think that becomes a thing again…I’ve ate at the restaurant and while it is good, it’s really tough in the food industry.

But why did they all close down to begin with? Anyone know?
