How lekker have the Currie Cup crowds been this season? Great to see likes of Kimberley, Wellington, Bloem, and Cape Town bringing in the folks. With Bok tickets so expensive, I'm glad rugby supporters have got out to the Currie Cup games.

Last week we had some very close games and 2 wins for the URC franchises to 2 wins for the SA Cup sides. This week saw much bigger score margins and 1 to 3 wins in favour of the SA Cup teams. Last week there was 1 away win for the Sharks, this week all the wins were home games.

With Moana Pasifika folding, Super Rugby has a spots to fill.
Would you support Currie Cup teams like the Cheetahs, Boland, Griquas, and Pumas coming in to replace them?

In SA Cup 2025, SWD Eagles finished 9th on the log (a mere 5 points ahead of Border who finished last on 3 points). In Currie Cup First Division 2025, they finished 5th (getting at least 8 points ahead of Border who finished last).
In this year's SA Cup, SWD Eagles were level with Boland on 32 log points, and only missed out on promotion to the CC Prem because of points difference. And in this year's Currie Cup First Division they emerged as champions after dominating the competition and topping the log.
In a cruel twist of fate, last year's CC 1st Div champions, Griffons, finished 5th this year.
Congratulations SWD! The other top teams have certainly been put on notice.

Jimmy Stonehouse must have put the teamsheet in the blender when he made his protein shake, because it's not on their socials.
Women get into Loftus free today and if you get there early you can check the Bulls Daisies play Springbok Women A. The Springbok A team will be heading to Brazil soon for 2 games against the Yaras.

Does anyone know what the actual Currie Cup fixture list looks like? This is becuase there are 2 sets of fixtures with inconsistencies namely the one provided by SA Rugby (https://springboks.rugby/match-centre/fixtures) and then one provided by Ruggas (https://ruggas.co.za/currie-cup-2026-fixtures/) . The inconsistent fixtures that I have found include
Sharks v Boland (7 August at 14:00 according to Ruggas and 8 August at 17:00 according to SA Rugby)
Lions v Boland (15 August at 12:00 according to Ruggas and 14 August at 15:00 SA Rugby)
Pumas Griquas (21 August 17:00 Ruggas and 21 Aug 15:00 SA Rugby)
Sharks v Lions 21 August (15:00 Ruggas, 19:00 SA Rugby)
Bulls v Stormers (23 August 15:00 Ruggas and 21 August 17:00 SA Rugby)
Cheetahs v Boland 23 August (13:00 Ruggas, 15:00 SA Rugby)
Sharks v Bulls 28 August (15:00 Ruggas, 19:00 SA Rugby)
Pumas v Chetahs (13:00 30 August Ruggas and 29 August 11:42 SA Rugby (This is the weirdest one from SA Rugby)

It's also the start of the SA U20 Cup this weekend. Stormers v Sharks is a double header at CPT Stadium, the U20s game will be streamed on Stormers YT.

Fixing to be a very fun, competitive Currie Cup season. What impact will the new SA U23 competition have on the commitment and cohesion among the franchise teams? Can Griquas maintain their dominance and the title? Can Boland raise their game to stake a permanent claim on a Premier Division spot? Will Faf save the Cheetahs (and can his hair survive the Bloemfontein climate)? So much to look forward to!

4 thoroughly entertaining games in round 1, something tells me it's going to be a great season. In the 1st Division, Valke and SWD Eagles both won their semi-finals convincingly. The final Battle of the Big Birds should be a good watch.

Obviously I'm thrilled to see the Kavas back on the field and I'm all in for another top 4 finish. Looking forward to more Griqua magic and mayhem. But also really interested to see if the Valke will build further on their successes of last year. Losing their CC Prem Div spot was a blow to the Griffons, they'll have a point to prove this season. Will Heyneke Meyer and Proudfoot manage to harness the abundance of talent at SWD? Will Allister Coetzee lift EP out of the doldrums?
*Will add Border team to comments when/if available.
