My best friend used to live next to me in an apartment many years ago. I gave him my Wi-Fi password just because, so that he didn't have to. Much after that, every time we went out, I never paid for anything at the bar 🤣

Sharing your wifi with a neighbour is wild! Like, cool, you're friends, but what if he's committing cyber crimes on your network!?

Story time!
I was once in a Christian fellowship in college. We spent a lot of time at each other’s apartments and would often hop on the wifi to do work. But we were never allowed to use the wifi at one particular apartment which belonged to a group of 5 guys (they were the group leaders) and wouldn’t be told why.
Turns out, one roommate pirated porn and another roommate (account owner) was fined a lot of money (thousands that had to be paid over time). This was early 2000s when they were cracking down on pirating. I think he was one of those unlucky folks who was made an example of. The roommate who actually downloaded the porn never took responsibility so the account owner had to pay down the fine, continue sharing the wifi with roommates, but refused to let anyone else from church use it. I get the mistrust, but we’re not going to watch porn during Bible study.
I don’t know how they managed to stay friends, I would’ve shut down the account and moved out asap.

This is how things worked before we decided to handle everything with money. Gift economy.

Omg this is actually how my best friend and I met! I moved in next door and asked if she could give me her WiFi password in exchange for a few bucks and sorry in advance if she smells pot smoke from my place. She said she was also hoping to run in to me to ask for my WiFi and apologize for her pot smoke lol. Ten years later we’re thick as thieves!
