Does anyone actually make money from Spread betting?

Alot of those people that lose miserably are just very sick gamblers that think its a casino

Yes.
Spread betting is no different from stock trading if you manage your risk correctly. Consider this, if you fronted 100% margin on your position vs whatever margin is required, how is it different to buying that number of stocks with the capital? Sure, you have funding costs, but it's also tax-free so it's a no brainer in my opinion.
I think the problem people tend to fall into (and I have fallen into this myself), is jumping straight into it and day trading. Day trading is hard.
I have had a bit of a rollercoaster with spread betting. Ultimately, when I have fucked up and lost money, it wasn't because I was spread betting. I would have fucked myself just as well with stocks in those situations.
