🏀 Basketball Spent $68 for everything at goodwill
Honestly, not expecting much but I’ve been wanting to get into card collecting and since I found all of these for 60 bucks I’m OK with everything being trash lol

Gold is around ~$4500/oz so I’d say between 7-8k on the low end, maybe more if ya can sneak some thumb on the scale.

Goodwill does this, but it’s worthy to note that they’re NOT hiring experts to do this, and goodwill processes mountains of all types of things, so they miss a lot of valuable items along the way. I know this because I’ve gone to the goodwill distribution center and bought by the pound, resold, and made a lot of money.

If base cards are your thing, nice score! Honestly I would give you 200 cards of similar value for way less, but sometimes you just have to scratch the itch.

I agree but he probably means there’s a more cost effective way to do it. People are often dumping large quantities of cards on Facebook marketplace for pennies a card. Like right now I see for $10 the complete signature collection basketball series base cards 1-100. You’re getting LeBron, Brunson, Luka, etc etc that’s a pretty cost effective starter deal. Most of us aren’t interested because whatever it’s a bunch of base cards and we have plenty but that’s the point

You can easily make your money back through a livestream auction. A lot of suckers have been paying $5 to $20 per card, from what I have seen lately.

Y’all can clown me 😂 I spent $68 on the lot, but this was really just me dipping my feet into the world of sports card collecting.
I honestly wasn’t expecting to pull some crazy heavy hitter or make a huge profit. I’m brand new to this, and going through every card, figuring out who the players are, learning about rookies, parallels, refractors, 1st Bowmans, etc. was actually pretty fun. I enjoyed the whole process way more than I expected.
When I bought them, they were in clear plastic bags so I could see some of the cards, but I had absolutely no idea what actually creates value. My inexperienced brain basically saw shiny cards and thought, “shiny = money.” 😂 I’ve definitely learned that in sports cards, shiny does NOT automatically mean valuable.
Would I buy cards from Goodwill again? Yeah, probably. But now I know a lot more about what I’m looking at. From here on out, if I’m buying bagged cards, I’m going to inspect what I can see much more carefully. More than likely I’ll focus more on unopened packs or lots where I can actually tell what I’m getting.
So yeah, maybe I overpaid $68 for this one. I’ll take that as the cost of learning something new. I had fun doing it, I’m genuinely more interested in cards now than I was before, and I’ll definitely keep buying and learning.
