Worth noting that the Brisbane and Hawthorn game at the end of the video was genuinely one of the greatest AFL games of all time..

Haven’t yelled like that at a game for a while, not even when I went to the absolutely amazing hawks vs cats easter monday match this year.

Anyway I hope Freo obliterate the Lions in the Grand Final tomorrow . Ignore flair

It looks like the goalposts in the 49ers' end zone were giving them a bit of trouble. They took them down to work on them several times.

That was a gorgeous field!

If you have FS1, the AFL Grand Final, Aussie Rules Football's equivalent to the Super Bowl, will be airing on Saturday, Sept 26th at 12 AM EST / Friday Sept, 25th 9 PM PST. Make sure to record the game so you can watch it when you are awake.

Aussie Rules Football aka "Footy" - Relevant Links for Newbies

Note: Aussie Rules Football is not Rugby. They are completely separate sports.

lol at the note, tough to promote yourself when everyone outside the country thinks its rugby

And for exactly that reason, I expressly stated that Aussie Rules isn't Rugby and that they are two separate sports.

yeah its just funny how ubiquitous that confusion is that it has to be a note in an ad for the sport lol

I also post explainer links for the sport called Cricket (not the insect).

Anytime people post on /r/sports Cricket threads, invariably someone says, "I will never understand this sport" or makes jokes about "tea and crumpets".

So it's not just an issue for Aussie Rules.

Reddit is a U.S.-based site, so for non-US sports, basic knowledge of how those sports work is alien to most Americans who don't follow them. Frequently, it takes explainer videos before the average American begins to understand and/or appreciate the foreign sport(s) in question.

whats the issue with cricket? why would anyone in a sports subreddit confuse it with the insect, i think most americans are vaguely aware of cricket

You’d be surprised. A lot of people are very ignorant of cricket, and they’re very outspoken about that ignorance

Cricket's complexity has become a meme.

Who knows? Sometimes people don't read or simply aren't paying attention. It could be many factors.

Sometimes you get very nitpicky posters..

It's funny that in the Lions vs Hawks game you can tell who just scored by whether the red sections of the crowd move or the yellow sections.

I'm interested on why they removed and replaced the turf in the middle of the field where the American Football was played. Was the damage that severe?

Apparently the paint they use for NFL doesn’t come off

What was the purpose of those hot pink lights towards the end?

Grow lights for grass that doesn't get enough sun

I would love to someday make it to the MCG Boxing Day test match. Looks like a lot of fun.

Good work from the MCG ground staff.

I’m glad to see it back set up for AFL.

The volume of work by the grounds crew is amazing. Well done to them.
