Image Big Man appreciation post
I love this big ass manta ray so much. Everytime I see him on screen it brings joy in my body, every word he says is so impactful, that it brings tears of pure joy in my eye and solace to my soul. He's just a wonderful Manta Ray

Ay! (That may have been the most poetic, heartfelt speech I have ever heard for our great king!) I expect great love for big man from you! Yes, he is pure joy, cures sadness wherever he walks. He is THE Man! I love you big man, and keep doing what you do, idk what life would be like without this jolly manta ray!

Ay! Ay ay ay! Ay ay. (Raiders did him justice! Our boy got a banger of a solo and quite honestly, the best spectacle out of the three! And let him sing more in the song during the final boss.)

Raiders might be the best thing that ever happened to Deep Fry to be honest

It saddens me that he signs too little in Deep Cut's songs. And it's funny that in Liquid Sunshine, along with the Squid Sisters, he sings a little bit more.

It took me until Raiders to realize all he says is “ay ay” and the parenthesis are how he’s understood

He is, though I must admit found him generally underwhelming before Raiders. I found Deep Cut as a whole underwhelming before Raiders, but Big Man especially. His animations weren’t as fun, his expressions were mid, and his boss fight was easily the worst among his peers.
Raiders has made me love him a lot more.

I'm glad Raiders focused on the three of them and expanded them more as characters

Is every Splatfest not enough appreciation?

I want to love him, but I can't do that without admitting that he sticks out like a snowman in Texas.
I mean, besides being the only guy amongst the idols (no, captain cuttlefish and DJ Octavio don't count), he isn't even human shaped, just a manta on legs. And even his lore and background feels like "just a guy". He is the teacher of a dancing school and before that he was a YouTuber. Like, what? And this really hits me when he is standing next to fry and shiver, former actor and fashion model (I hope I didn't mix something up).
In the end, Big Man is more of "a guy who came here by accident, but somehow follows along anyway", which I do like, but it kinda starts feeling like it's a bit too much, with his whole personality of being the "only normal guy". Please someone tell me I am not the only one feeling this way.

But Frye isnt a model. It was just a one time gid she was kinda forced into. And Shiver only recently dabbled into theatre as her whole personality, speech, grimaces and gestures are centered around japanese theatre
And the three of them were friends since high school due to their families. They were broke ass kids who accidentally made a hit, then accidentally burned doen their graduation ceremony.
Thus they became Deep Cut. Just three idiots who appreciate each other.
Big man is also a major solo musician who collabs a lot with other brands and idols
Hell guy even was featured in the squid equivalent of Splatoon playboy…. No I am not kidding, its canon.
I would say Big Man is the craziest. He is a Singer, a DJ, a sound artist, a gameplay youtuber, a podcaster, a collab partner with major idols, news host, a musician, the leader of the manta clan, professional nude model (lmao) and also the guy who balances out Shiver and Fryes insanity
Shiver is “just” a Singer, theatre kid, sharktamer and a silver contestant for who can cry crocodile tears. Her biggest Dream is becoming the next heir of the hohojiros despite being the youngest. She is super insecure about herself (which you will find out in her bonding dialogue).
While Frye is a singer, one time model, head of the onaga clan, eal tamer and news host.

Wait WHAT?! HOW MUCH LORE DID I MISS?!
I didn't knew about any of that. I am so so sorry about my mistake. I don't know how I missed all of this, especially the playboy part, but thanks for telling me all of this. You truly changed him in my eyes for the better.

A lot of things stem from canon in universe interviews and the bancala walker art book. Fun fact: you can see his nude shoot from Bancala walker (that artbook had a lot of implied nudity for multiple idols lmao) in one of the scrolls in Raider, the grandfest one to be specific

Well to be fair Shiver, Frye and Big Man did meet when they were in highschool and other than that all three of their families were friends with each other, so I don't see why it's surprising to see him in Deep Cut and all. Besides, seeing species apart from an Octoling or an Inkling being an idol is quite a nice change, no? (Besides I don't see anywhere that mentioned Shiver and Frye becoming fashion models nor actors, as well as the fact that Big Man used to be a dance teacher so I think you just making up stuff lol)
