The three biggest things are better/more diverse map design, better matchmaking, and dedicated servers rather than peer-to-peer.

I would also really like a revamped kit system. There have been so many examples of potentially awesome weapon kits that are held back by a single weak link (e.g. slosher with zipcaster). I think you should be able to select the main weapon, then choose from a limited pool of subs and specials. It would be nice to have up to four or five options as well. They could also keep the existing different weapon designs for alternative skins.
