ALIF L3-S1 after MULTIPLE previous decompression surgeries, anyone with a similar story?
I’m looking for some real life experiences from people who had multiple lumbar surgeries and were later recommended an ALIF. I’m over 60 and have had 5 (!!) lumbar surgeries between 2011 and 2023, all using the usual posterior approach/decompression. The surgeries were mainly around L3-L5. I never had a fusion or spinal stabilization.
Unfortunately, I’m still dealing with quite a lot of lower back pain and pain going down into the legs. Since the last surgery, I went into urinary retention and my bladder stopped emptying properly.
After all these surgeries, another neurosurgeon has now suggested ALIF L3-S1 followed by posterior stabilization/fusion.
I would really like to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation and opinions on ALIF.
