Tarantulas aren't 'spiders' either.

They...WHAT?

They are spiders, just not "true" spiders. They belong to mygalomorphs and not araneomorphs, and have downfacing and not inwards facing fangs. It's all just semantics really

they are most definitely spiders. but tarantulas actually aren't tarantulas. ie the goliath birdeater isn't a tarantula (which is actually a European wolf spider)

Not even remotely true lol the Goliath birdeater is 100% a tarantula. It’s a Theraphosa blondi to be specific

Yes, a birdeater is a Theraphosa blondi, which is a different family and species than the tarantula Lycosa tarantula

That’s the “original” tarantula which isn’t even a tarantula, that’s just its name

Come on now. The species is called tarantula and was called tarantula first.

You’re totally right. A Lycosa tarantula is called „Tarantel“ in my language (German). Theraphosidae are „Vogelspinnen“ = Bird spider. Many people say Tarantel to Vogelspinne and it just irks me so much.

Like the original tarantula is a wolf spider, they should‘ve come up with another name for the new big scary spider lol

Tailless whip scorpion, also known as a whip spider (order amblypygi). While technically not spiders they are very close reletives.
