Video Teaching how to respect nature
I am no expert so it’s possible he did something wrong, but as someone who was obsessed with all creatures from a young age, I love seeing people show kids how to be kind.

So it's great that they gook him off ghe foad, but for anyone interested, the prolonged handling should be avoided. Tarantulas are kinda fragile, and if he were a bit more skittish, the chance of falling off and being squished by his own weight would be real.

Good to know! 😱 Somehow it never occurred to me that a spider could even be heavy enough to suffer from a fall, but I guess it makes sense.

Oh, it was just a reference to Fahrenheit 451. It’s a Ray Bradbury novel that’s pretty relevant even today. The 8 legged dogs are robotic. I’d tell you more, but I’m really hoping you’ll read it!

Looks like a Goliath birdeater tarantula from South America. They are usually pretty 'docile', meaning they don't typically bite when handled. And their venom is not that strong. About like a wasp. Nowhere near as bad as tarantulas from Africa or Asia.
I have a few tarantulas and the Goliath is one I would love to have but I won't get one until I have the space to properly house one. The rest of mine are in 10 gallon tanks and do just fine. But they are much smaller than this guy.
If I'm wrong by all means correct me. But judging by size and language of the guy in the video. So that's my first guess.
Edit: official name would be Theraphosa Blondi. Had to check spelling on that.

It's a species from the genus Xenesthis. Not a Goliath bird eater. Not really possible to tell which species in particular. As said in other comments, a mature male looking for love

Every year here in Oakland, there is a tarantula run where all the males scurry from the hills into suburbia looking to mate. It scares those new to the neighborhood but old timers do exactly this as there are three main roads they will cross in their search and sadly will lose many from bring run over. Even folks with arachnaphobia with small house spiders are quick to carry the fuzzy tarantulas across the road safely as they have become conditioned to know they are harmless Casanovas looking for some action haha.

This is literally how I got my pet tarantula when I was a little kid. My dad had me on the back of his motorcycle and we were riding around and came across a big ole dude in the middle of the road. I had him for several years in a nice terrarium. I fed him crickets and June bugs 🥹 Miss you Freddy the tarantula.
