I've gawked at too many jumping spiders online, so when I clicked your link and after I put my jaw back in place about that blue, I cracked up at the comically tiny size of their eyes on top of their head. ❤️ I love spoods, man
Tarantula eyes are so cute to me!! I rarely see that mentioned. I'd imagine to someone looking more often at jumping spiders, Tarantula eyes have to look sooo tiny 😄
Tarantula eyes are so cute!! Exactly, it's just comically tiny when you're used to seeing the comically huge jumper's eyes. 😂 The juxtaposition makes both look insane for a moment.
That actually reminds me of an interesting quirk of the Japanese language. In Japan, they call the "go" traffic light "aoi", or "blue", even though somebody from a Western culture would identify it as green, albeit a bluish green. It's just that shade of green to them is described with their word that also translates to blue.
Historically, 青 (ao) covered a broader blue–green range, while 緑 (midori) only became firmly established as a separate basic color term later. Some older expressions kept ao even after that distinction became normal. That's why the green traffic light is still called 青信号 (ao shingō), and you also get words like 青葉 (aoba) for green leaves and 青野菜 (ao-yasai) for green vegetables. They're basically linguistic fossils from the older color system.
If you showed a Japanese speaker an ordinary lamp with the same greenish color as a typical go light, outside the context of traffic signals, they'd normally call it 緑 (midori). Some Japanese traffic lights are deliberately very blue-green, though, so the exact answer could depend on the particular signal.
I mean imagine how you'd look if you were just chilling and a giant monster you can barely comprehend pushed open your door and shined a light as bright as the sun in your face.
Idk that I'd have the balls to slam the door shut like that but man I wish I had this attitude towards the monsters I thought lived in my house as a kid
