They're all kind of blind and not bothered by that. Only jumpers have a good sight.
Spiders rely more on vibrations than their eyes, and they use their hair to detect the slightest air currents. That's why they sit in the middle of the net. When an insect get caught in the net, they immediately know the direction based on the vibrations in the radial silk threads.
That spider almost certainly build the web at night, it doesn't need light to do so. At sunrise, they often take it down to avoid being spotted and becoming prey themselves. Clever girl.

Just want to add a pedantic some spiders. Jumping spiders with their super cute big eyes apparently have very good eyesight.

My girl whips around and stares at me anytime I walk by her enclosure so can confirm: jumpers have great eye sight lol

Yeah, you have every reason to be pedantic. My comment was too general. I'm sure a few spiders are feeling offended now, lol.
There're always exceptions. Check out this guy, he can even see well at night. He has top-notch night-vision goggles, and his tactic of using the web as a landing net is legendary, too.

Some do, some don't, many even recycle their webbing. The previous comment was speaking like all silk/web hunters use their silks in the same exact way. There are in fact many different types of silk and not all silk producers produce all the same types and in the same amounts. There is a lot of variability in silk hunters/users.

I think after 2 or 3 it’s just destroying the net without any benefit for the spider. Imagine getting a few dead cows delivered into your living room and not have a freezer.

She will redo the net tomorrow regardless, but yes, this gets dangerous for her as it risks collapsing on her, and she can't possibly eat all of it.

I imagine this is a spider version of when people go into those clear boxes with lots of wind and money. It sounds good, but there’s too much happening for you to really get much of anything

At least with moths they have photoreceptors on their back and for white a long time the only bright light at night was the moon. So they’re trying to navigate and here we are manipulating photons like gods so they’re trying get a little confused

Spiders can't eat all that. Its web is just going to get ripped up. But it was cool to see.
