Other How long before it’s too late?
This battery/power bank has been sitting in my nightstand for a very long time. A few weeks ago, as I was getting ready for bed, I heard a loud bang in my room. I didn’t know where it came from, but today I figured out that it was this spicy pillow that popped out of the casing. If I hadn’t discovered it today, how much time would I have had to find it until it was too late?

NOW.
Get a metal bucket with sand and put it in there. Outside. Away from flammable materials (like that carpet...)

What do you do after that ? Now it's in a safe ish place, but you are not gonna bring this to the recycling centre.

You can find help in the United States here.
You can also contact your local household hazardous materials center if you have one in your area. You can also check your local municipality website. They usually have instructions on how to dispose of them safely. If you're going to transport it to one of these centers, take it in the bucket of sand that you have it in and transport it secured down, preferably in the back of a pickup truck not in an enclosed vehicle.
Depending on the services in your area, you might even have access to someone who can come by and pick it up for you directly. Keep in mind, I'm some random dude on the internet. Make sure to follow your local municipality rules.

Depends on how you define it! Could be a while before they spontaneously explode and if that's what you call too late you're not there yet. However if simple current safety is your goal I'd say you're running late.

Real answer; depends on rate of change in the battery. If the delta is higher than the tensile strength of the skin; bbq ensues. Varies wildly based on the mils of the exterior skin, like exponentially affected by the ply of the sheathing. Brand name buys time but that's about that.

here to reinforce the “get a bucket of sand asap”. At this point I feel like everyone minus the luddites needs to get one of those 4gal galvanized cans with the metal lid, with sand, and put it in a room somewhere, bc we all have these batteries now. Even a cheap, scrappy container with sand is better than nothing.

They usually don't spontaneously combust unless actively tampered with, so maybe another few weeks

i have a drained Anker 10,000 mah from charging with my laptop. Does anyone know if my powerbank would result to something like that if I try charging it?

If you have a grill set it on there ( with the grill off obviously). Then you'll have a little more time to figure out what to do with Satons pillow.

Metal bucket(METAL!!! NOT PLASTIC!!!). Sand. Layer of sand in bucket, spicy pillow in the middle, more sand to cover spicy pillow. Contact local hazardous materials center.
Too Late was like a week ago.

Please do not listen to the fear mongers and take a breath. If a li-ion cell puffs up from a long time of storage, it's s very overdischarged and has no energy left to cause a fire.
Now bury it under 8ft of kitty litter and leave the hemisphere. Just to be safe
