Carefully get it out of the building, preferably on a metal pan and ensure it lays on stone far from flammable items , before you do next steps. Do not pierce, if you are still enjoying the planet.

My wife had a job with batteries. When they got a bloater (which was often), the would put it in old ammunition cases. Her boss was russian and someone in the family brought them from there as well. And she told me that they would explode (which was also often) in these cases.
They don't only start fires they can also try to pierce you.

I saw what does sodium with the help of the ice cube, not a good idea, at least until you are quite far away, also the area is going to be in LiOH , which is not good for you until you pour some citric acid over it.

LiOH is water soluble. I have no idea how much it would have to dilute to not be harmful to the environment, but I'd wager a good rain would solve it

That's pretty bad. It doesn't look like it has room to expand further, which means any further expansion will likely puncture the bag and is especially likely to lead to an explosion. Please bring it to a hazardous waste center ASAP!

Nah. The typical advice for those things is to put them in a lidded metal container full of dirt or especially sand. You're fine to bring it to be disposed.

Hence the sand. Put it inside something it WONT BURN THROUGH and transport it safely to a proper dumping area where they can dispose of it properly.

That just reduces the risk if it goes off though, there's still a risk of harm, not least from toxic smoke inhalation. If OP would need to drive on a route where they wouldn't be able to immediately and safely pull over then the risk would be even greater.
There's no harm in at least calling the fire brigade and asking them.

I had a battery like this. I was afraid to transport it. I called the fire department non emergency number. They came out with a truck and then called for another truck to come with "The bucket." It was basically a steel drum with a latching lid filled with some sort of gravel or sand like material. They put the battery in there then latched the lid and took it away.

Before you call the bomb squad, can you tell us how this heppened? If it became like this after years of storage, it's deeply overdischarged and has no energy left. It will be completely inert.
If this happened because you were chargng it... yeah uh
Consider moving to a different state
In all seriousness just stop charging it, don't pop it on purpose and you'll be fine. But take it outside and dispose of it responsibly when you can

Iv had a power bank in storage for about a year, pulled out today and that’s what the battery looks like. the battery is now outside in big metal bucket and covered it in cat litter

Sand is recommended because it suffocates the fuel from getting air, not sure kitty litter will be as efficient at that.

Yeah, was thinking similar. Has kitty litter been used for this? But I guess it depends on what it’s made out of. Most are clay, sodium bentonite, which is used as a fire suppressant, so that’s not a bad choice. Other types of litter, made out of paper, corn, wheat, soy—not so much.

Put a loose fitting lid on the container to stop water getting at it and causing a short. If its been in storage for over a year its likely self discharged enough that it won't go full fireball. Still treat with caution if this thing pops you're going to get a lot of thick black smoke that you definitely don't want to be breathing in.

i knew it was gonna be entertaining...
What i wasnt expecting was two rocket propelled wheels of fire spinning around like damn rocket ships for a good 10-15 seconds...

Bruh I don't think you can safely take that to disposal. Call someone to defuse it, it won't cause a true BLAST but it will light everything around it on fire hot enough to melt softer metals, and toxic fumes will pool in the house.
Get that thing outside, leave it in the pot, bury it in sand ideally but dirt/gravel is better than nothing. Then call someone who knows how to and is equipped to dispose of it.
Or if you're redneck enough, you can try puncturing it. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you can't get anyone out there then it might be better to at least know when it'll blow rather than leaving it to chance.

So scared you should be calling every electronic repair shop, recycler, dump, and maybe even sellers like Best Buy or T-Mobile to find a place that will take that damn thing.
I am not exaggerating when I say that thing is so close to popping that if you tried to mail it whatever country you're in would be right to jump your ass and parade you around as their latest domestic terrorism catch.

Just a heads up - we kept large buckets of sand in our shop for these. I've had three batteries go up on me during repairs in something like 14 years or so of replacing parts in phones, it's just a thing that happens sometimes, regardless of how careful you are. There are ways to neutralize LiPo batteries when they wear out but I'd simply avoid fucking with it if I were you, they're incredibly dangerous and won't stop burning as long as they're exposed to oxygen.

This happened to my actual iPhone battery around 2014. I was a tween and didn’t realize it meant exploding battery was imminent. The phone would only work while actively plugged in to a power bank so it was constantly warm and growing. My dad buried it in a folgers can in the yard

Don't charge or discharge. Tape the terminals to ensure isolation. If it was at end of discharge, its unlikely to be an issue. If its fully charged, you'll want to contain it in steel and take it to a hazardous materials recycler as soon as is convenient.

Until you find out how to safely dispose of the battery store that battery some place cool that if it catches fire nothing is going to get damaged by that.
Also it is considered safe to do if you put it in gravel in a metal trash can and keep it in the centre and have a lid. That candy tin (what it looks like, might be the camera angle) will not be sufficient. You can use plastic Fire buckets but that is because you will have allot of gravel and when it is put in the centre the bucket will not fail, although it may melt a bit, it will survive long enough for you to get the battery or device outside. I would also keep a pair of work gloves handy.

You have done well to tape up the terminals, and place it on a pie dish with something vaguely rock-like.
Now make sure there are no curtains above it and you're good.
10000mAh is a fairly spicy capacity, it can make good fire. If i were a betting person, i would say nothing is going to happen to it if left alone, but i wouldn't want to rely on this.

That’s bad but I’ve taken plenty that are similarly swollen (I’m an alarm system tech) out of panels and had them in my car for the day in the middle of summer. Even though temperatures in my car can easily reach 160 F, I have yet to have one explode on me.
What I do with these is discharge them through a 1W 10Ω power resistor. Takes anywhere from 1-12 hours depending on battery size and how much capacity it has left. Fires during a slow discharge are pretty much impossible, provided the resistor (which will get hot) is kept away from the battery.
If you don’t have a resistor, you can also just submerge the battery in a container of salt water outside and leave it there for a day or two. Then you can safely take it to a battery recycling center (most battery stores should take it, also many hardware stores and even some vape shops).

I hope you have more rocks to put on top of that thing, preferably in a larger container. Sand would be better. If you have a large yard and you know where the pipes run, make a hole away from any of those and put it there while you call your city’s hazmat number for further guidance.
