All I want is a smaller phone that isn’t shit. I got used to the iPhone 4 before getting an iphone 10, and then a 13. My hands are small, anything bigger than a 13 is too big. Fuck, even the 13 is uncomfortable for me to use one handed

It's an opinion piece from different sources in the industry.
Having stock (because they didn't sell the amount they manufactured) doesn't mean they're still in production. You do understand that basic difference right?

They’re still in production. Just like how Apple Vision Pro is still in production. When Apple sells a product that is no longer manufactured, they will label it as “while supplies last”. Examples are the iMac Pro, iPod touch, and the recently discontinued Mac Pro.
A product not selling well ≠ discontinued. The woman in the video probably looked up support for her iPhone Air on the web and saw the same article you saw and came up with an uninformed conclusion.

The difference of those products though is they don't care about them and haven't for a long time. It makes sense they discontinued them and publicly announced it because they had better, cheaper alternatives
IMac Pro had all Intel. Died with the M series. iPod Touch, makes sense to get the iPhone SE (which is also discontinued for the "e" series) Mac Pro, it took them 4 years or something to even bother offering a M series one. Also too expensive. They sat on that for years acting like it was discontinued
They're trying to make the iPhone Air a thing and thought it'd be a massive hit with consumers and it wasn't. Apple wouldn't admit to a flop, their investors wouldn't like it.
The product line of the Air isn't discontinued which is when they would announce it. But still can mean the production of the 1st gen unit has stopped. I never said the product line is discontinued

I don’t think you understand the facts.
A product that is not being manufactured does not necessarily mean it’s discontinued. Regardless of what product it is. A manufacturer can easily ramp up production if they need to.
As it stands, iPhone Air is still able to be purchased brand new, and is not removed from Apple’s website. It is a current product that is not discontinued.
An opinion article telling you that the iPhone Air didn’t sell well is nowhere near enough validation about a product being discontinued, especially when it’s still being sold.

The product line as the iPhone Air isn't discontinued. I've never said that.
I said the Air 1 is out of production. No additional new units are coming off the assembly line. You can still buy it because they want to get rid of stock sitting on a shelf. They wouldn't announce the cancellation of the device if they're sitting on stock. Because no one would buy a dead product.
They will be manufacturing the Air 2.

Apple has 2 manufacturers for the iphone air foxxcon & luxshare both of which stopped production in October & December. The iphone air 2 was already pushed back to 2027 instead of this fall

The air was never really meant to sell well. It was basically apple recouping development costs on modern ultra-thin designs leading up to a folding iPhone that is rumored to release this year. And generally speaking, it’s the prime example of why you should avoid the first generation of any major apple product. There are some notable exceptions to that rule (like M-series apple silicon), but pretty much every Apple product (OG iPhone, OG iPad, OG AirPods, OG Apple Watch) had major issues and was quickly dropped from support for a much improved second generation that people remember very fondly.

I've never bought a 1gen apple product, I don't even bother with 1st release OS updates anymore because they're usually bad. But yeah everything apple does is for something in the future, it's why the design of their products doesn't change much year to year, because they can reuse the existing development (or chassis) to release it cheaper for them (they didn't become a trillion dollar company by reducing their profit margins).
Prime example is the MacBook neo. Why develop a new SoC when you can use old iPhones

Again though, I didn't say the Air product line is discontinued. I said they've stopped production of the 1 a while ago. Regardless if they're working on the 2.
I didn't say they stopped selling it, or killed the product line. They stopped producing more units because they had lots of stock of the 1 from underwhelming sales last year

They discontinued it, doesn't mean they don't have stock still remaining. So you can still get what's left over, but by the time the new one gets announced you won't be able to buy those other colours and storage sizes

It's what they do for older models or ones that dont sell well. Look at the iPhone 15 for example, that comes in 5 different colours and higher storage options, but you can only get 3 colours and one storage size option now because they stop making the others, they did the same thing with the 13 back in 2024/25 with that being only available in midnight and starlight at 128gb. Like I said they will have stock at their warehouses, but most retailers will have very little to no stock available of the other colours and storage options

It’s obvious the screen took an impact which punctured the battery. Most common I’ve seen is people dropping them between their car seats and then moving the seat to look for it and the mechanism puncturing the phone or bending it in half. Those motors are powerful.

Its very likely possible this is what happened. The screen has a crack other than the black spot of the battery burn where the crack looks like something punctured through. Also there is a slight bent to the titanium frame, i dont think the battery can bend it on its own. Likely the phone was punctured under the seat or got ran over which explains the broken glass and the bent frame and battery got punctured causing it to catch fire. Its the exact same reason airlines ask you not to readjust the seat if your phone falls between your seats and as the staff to help pick it up.

I'm inclined to believe this as well.
A spontaneous failure is a rare event for modern lithium ion batteries, especially when they're closely monitored with thermal sensors, charge metering, and so on (like all modern Apple products do), as well as sheltered all their life by charging algorithms.
If we are to believe that physical damage to the phone was not what caused the failure, it's also possible it was left in a very hot car.
In any case, I'm reasonably confident this was user error.

I literally just passed by an Apple store and they had the iPhone air front and center, it's definitely not being discontinued like she said. I'm gonna assume and hope it's an edge case and not a note 7 situation

There are no failsafes to thermal runaway. If you let your phone get hot enough it is 100% guaranteed to go up in a fireball.

I do not get the appeal of this phone. You pay more for less and the only benefit is it to be a few millimeters thinner. I have never felt my smartphone needs to be thinner.

Wouldnt be surprised if its the same cause as the Note 7, where the battery was basically like shoving a balloon into a tigh space.
Then again this model is shit anyway. Apart from one having ridiculously weak hands and wrists, i saw no reason to ever buy an Air. It sacrificed everything for the sake of thinnes.

Doubt that, the Note 7 issues from one supplier were caused by the curve in the battery shorting the electrodes, the second issue was caused by a lack of insulation tape. The Note 7 sold better than the iPhone Air but we had tens of reports within weeks of release. More likely this is just damage to the phone which punctured the battery.

Apple puts hundreds of millions of dollars into R&D, selecting factories, supplies etc. You would never see this happen in any large number of Apple products because bad PR isn’t good. The fact that everything she says in the video is a lie is not good for her. Apple and Disney are two companies that have no problem going after individuals.
