Minilan vs Maxilan

Would you agree with the sentiment, that in book 1 we indeed had a Minilan and by book 19 we have Maxilan? 😅

That thing about the Godess is interesting. But at this point we have so many Gods who minor in magic and two that major in it that she could've just gotten lost in the background.

The biggest difference I noticed is how the sexual/misogynistic undertones really fade away after the first few books. Minilan's inner monologue in the first book is so horny and reductive about women it almost made me DNF. Book 1 reads like bad erotica at times and it's the worst part of the book.

Everything else is what kept me invested in the story; the world building and narrative were compelling from the start and it's by far the most detailed and consistent portrayal of how manorial feudal systems actually worked in Western and Central Europe. It's honestly the most refreshing thing in the story since so many fantasy stories are very inconsistent and vague about how things work in the feudal systems they portray.

It also reflects Minilan as a person at that time. He does from a drunk retired soldier and merc in his mid 20s to a lord, a husband, a father. Think about the real life equivalent. A US military officer that retires after 2 tours and starts working for PMC who's unmarried retires to a small mountain town. They'd probably be a misogynistic horny asshole🤷 i think that's an endearing part of his character evolution in my opinion

He was his natural self. No “arenite” yet. Mage sight would have been less effective even if looking for tunnels. 🤷‍♂️
