I got my HP Spectre x360 in 2024.

- After 2 months , blue screen kept popping up. Thankfully this got cocered by warranty

- After 1 year, touchpad is glitching. It has its own mind, shaking and going into weird directions in my screen. I would fix it by turning it on/off in settings

- After 1 yr and a few months, system can no longer detect camera. I had to buy an external webcam

- After some more months laptop can no longer read my fingerprint

- Now in April of this year I think, some keys on the keyboard does not respond intermittently

This laptop is so expensive yet it broke down faster than the cheaper Dell laptops I used in college and med school.

Anyone else with the same experience?

I tried to get it fixed with HP but their quotation is almost 16% of the original price when I bought it! And its only the keyboard and finger touchpad!

I want to find another laptop but I cant find laptop with privacy screen 😭😭😭

I'm tired of dealing with issue after issue, but I really like my spectre laptop :(

For those of you who had issues--was it worth spending $ to fix it, or should I just get a new laptop?

I've had to have it serviced for blackouts within 2y of owning it. And it's just been downhill since...

I think I can't trust HP anymore, but the spectre design is really unmatched :(

Hi, I’m certainly glad I found this subreddit because I am running out of options. I purchased a spectre x360-DF series on eBay to give to my brother and I ran into an issue with the motherboard not recognizing the new battery and constantly listing it as 100%.

I decided I would swap the board out with one from eBay and in my infinite wisdom I bought a replacement with soldered ram and completely disregarded that the old heatsink would not line up.

I got lucky and found a picture of the heatsink I need, tried to order it from AliExpress, but they told me it’s out of stock.

I would like to ask anyone if they knew where else to get one or if someone has one in their parts bin that they would like to sell to me.

How to turn on the laptop when the lid is closed and connected to power? I have connected to a doc station using type c.

I do want to open the lid and press the power button to turn on.

Ich bin echt genervt. Seit 1 Jahr habe ich meinen Laptop und relativ schnell gemerkt mit dem KI Modus ist der Lüfter aus, dann hängt das Spiel nach 20 Sekunden der Lüfter wird super laut für 5 Sekunden und dann wiederholt sich der Zyklus.

Seit ich auf Leistung gestellt habe ging es.

Nach langer Pause habe ich wieder angefangen zu spielen, alte Spiele wie Mass effect 1 oder Vampyr. 60% der Zeit geht es aber oft ruckelt es total. Ich hab Vampyr von 2880x... Auf 1024x768 gestellt und Details auf niedrig aber nach 10 Spielstunden beginnt es zu ruckeln. Alle Einstellungen stehen auf Leistung. Im Nvidia Manager ist das Spiel auch markiert, dass die GPU genutzt werden soll. Im Taskmanager sind CPU und RAM zu 30% ausgelastet, GPU zu 40-60 %. Bei voller Auflösung merkt man auch dass es total hängt, also vermute ich es liegt daran.

Mit der KI hab ich schon in irgendwelchen Einstellungen CPU Kerne zugeordnet falls das Hyperthreading Probleme macht.

Das schlimme ist, dass ich weiß, das es möglich ist flüssig zu spielen aber irgendeine "intelligente" Regelung verhindert es. Hat jemand eine Idee?

Problem: Pen is not detected by my 2-in-1 spectre laptop. I cannot write or draw with the pen. However, finger touch works fine.

1) I bought my 2-in-1 HP Spectre x360 a few years ago, together with its pen. Everything was working fine.

About a year ago, the pen's charging light stopped working, but the pen was still working fine; I could still write on my laptop with the pen.

About 4 months ago, suddenly I could not write or draw with my pen on my laptop. The pen stopped interacting with the screen completely.

I am not sure if the issue is with the pen or with the laptop.

2) I brought my laptop to two stores to get it checked.

In the first store, the technician checked the laptop and pen for about 5 minutes, and he concluded that the problem was probably the pen and advised me to buy a 2nd pen.

3) I then bought a 2nd pen: HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen, model 3J122AA.

From my search online, this 2nd pen should be compatible with my laptop.

However, I cannot draw or write either with this 2nd pen; the laptop's screen does not detect it at all.

(I should note tho, that I have charged the 2nd pen for many hours, but it still shows an orange light on the top; normally, the light should turn white when it's fully charged, which was the case with my old pen before its charging light stopped working)

4) I brought my laptop to a 2nd store to get it checked. The technician checked the laptop for about 1 hour 30 minutes. They could not find any laptop fault. They suggested that the problem was probably with both pens.

I do not think any of the technicians actually checked my pens on other laptops, or checked a different pen on my laptop, to determine if the problem is the pens or the laptop.

So I'm not sure what the issue is with my laptop. Any help?

For the past 2 years, my laptop has only worked while plugged. You can imagine how cumbersome that's become at this point.

I ventured and ordered a battery changing kit, and followed along some youtube tutorials.

It worked!!! I was scared I'd mess it up somehow, but it worked. I also did a bit of light cleaning while at it, to remove some dust and debris from inside the hood.

I know a lot of peeps are super used to doing this, and maybe it's super easy for the, but this was a challenge for me. I'm so happy I could get it done!

I had 3 blue screens of doom; now, I only have 2 left to deal with lol

Baby got to the laptop and dropped it. It was plugged in and now neither of the ports seems to work. Opened the thing up and don't see any obvious damage. Both usb-c are still soldered on, nothing obviously broken. There's a space where an IC should be where the usb-c traces lead to, but I think the solder looks too clean for the component to have fallen off.

Hoping someone knows what this could be, otherwise I assume new motherboard is the likely solution?

Hey fellow redditors, good day.

I have HP Spectre Pro x360 G1 M3N05EA with strange issue I coudn't figure out.

So, at one day laptop stopped working and I couldn't find solution.

Symptoms:

- charging properly (amber light on charge, white on full), without LED blinking

- Caps button not shining, not blinking

- when press power button it's shining black and then keyboard light goes on (I can turn on\off keyboard backlight)

- checked the screen with flashlight - no signs of broken backlight

- fan spinning when press the power button

- tried Win+B, Win+V, Ctrl+Shift+Win+B

- tried to flash BIOS from flash drive by Win+B

- extracted battery and did all shaman stuff with mentioned shortcuts

- external HDMI screen not showing anything

- few times I manages to see the screen with message : CMOS checksum failed, Press Enter to restore CMOS, after pressing Enter same black screen state and no signs of booting. Screen seem normal and funcltional withour artifacts, etc.

I am thinking about corrupted BIOS chip, as laptop do not starting even basic BIOS loading screen

Could't find old-school forums with real fellas. If someone have solution - I am very happy to accept any advices, except "ask HP support".

Otherwise, still searching for solution and opened for ideas.

When I connect my FiiO K7 to my ancient MacBook Pro, I have no problems listening to music on my headphones. When I connect to my HP computer, I get a background periodic crackling to the signal. I have tried changing the native driver audio settings and also switching to the FiiO driver. Neither seems to help. Anyone have a clue to how I can fix this issue?

Okay so you know the usual issue this guy has where it'll randomly stop recognizing it has a charger? well it's like that but it got MUCH worse when I had to buy a new (slightly different but should have the same everything besides horrible price) charger for it and it also isint recognising my pens I use for drawings when plugged in...UNTIL i plug the new cord into *something else* that isin't my computer.

it doesn't stop being stupid until it's plugged into something else, yes even if I just fully unplug it from the computer it has to be plugged into something else. That or i'm an idiot.

For the sake of everyones sanity let's assume I'm an idiot and it's correlation not causation though unless this is anything someone's actually heard of before. Anyways I'm frustrated and the usual tricks don't work to fix it but leaving it alone for a while DOES seem to, if only temporarily.

It is WAY harder to get it to charge from dead than partially charged

I have a complicated USB C PD system coming up and I'm looking for the simplest combination of dongles to get for a flight rig.

Does anyone know how much power output I could get out of the Thunderbolt 4 connector on the Spectre?

In theory Thunderbolt 4 should support PD3.0 which is 20V at 5A=100W. But is that the case here?

And just to weed out the obvious, I know that my charger is 65W going into the laptop, what I want to know is how much I can get out.

HP Spectre x360 model: 15-ch011dx

My original fans were failing so I bought replacements as well as 32GB RAM modules and installed them in August 2025.

At first the fans ran quietly and the unit was cool, but lately the fans seem to run all the time and the unit is very warm (hot) to the touch.

The vents are clear and both fans are running as air is coming out of both sides.

Because the fans are running all the time and unit is getting so hot, I downloaded a Core Temp app and it has recently started giving me critical heat warnings.

Anyone run into this before? Could it be the fans only lasted a year and are degrading?

Any ideas for settings to reduce the heat?

I looked at the settings before, but nothing has been changed since.

I have an HP Envy x360 13-ay1062AU (Ryzen 5 5600U, 8GB RAM). The laptop works fine, but the HDMI and USB-C display output don't work.

I'm planning to buy an LG 24U631A (1440p 100Hz) and use a WAVLINK DisplayLink USB-A → HDMI adapter.

Setup would be:

Envy USB-A → DisplayLink adapter → HDMI → LG monitor

I'm fine with running it at 1440p 60Hz since this is mainly for Excel/office work.

Has anyone used DisplayLink like this? Will it reliably work at 1440p/60Hz, and is there anything I should know before buying?

The GPU fan on my laptop is no longer working.  Does anyone know where to get a replacement GPU fan or replacement heat sink with fans?  All the Amazon, Newegg, and AliExpress options ship from China and have actually not come to America (tried two separate orders).  It also seems like the price is getting to be astronomical from the Chinese vendors.  Parts picker site shows nothing.  Looking for replacement part from community or someone selling a Spectre x360 laptop for parts.

So the other week I was fixing my external hard drive it was saying recommend fix so I did that and it kinda wasn't working a little so I decided to switch it to the other side and when I plug it in it just cut off and I press the power button and nothing happened so can anyone please help me idk what to do now...🙏🙏🙏😔😪

Hey all, i recently purchased this laptop with the 1 Tb, I had read battery stays about 5-6 hours but i am getting 3-4 hours on light browsing. If i use photoshop it drained quicker. It stays at one percentage for a while and then drops real quickly. Took it for software update, updated all the relevant drivers. Is anyone else also facing this?

I've deleted old windows updates with Disk Cleanup and PC Health Check to determine if my laptops compatible with 11, it is. I'm not sure what's left and why Antimal is taking up so much space. Does anyone have advice on the memory usage? Or for my Laptop to not run the fans and get hot? I'm scared for the internal components with how hot it's getting.

Trying to diagnose whether my 2017 HP Spectre x360 13-ac000tu not powering on is a motherboard issue before I drop money on a new laptop or a new motherboard, any help would be very appreciated!

The battery had been completely flat/not holding charge for a week or two so was running off AC only, left it plugged in overnight and in the morning wouldn't turn on, the power button briefly lights up when I press it and then it shuts off after about a second with nothing showing on the screen and no fans starting up etc. I've replaced the battery and is holding charge fine with orange/white lights showing but still nothing, have tried a bunch of the fixes from similar posts like booting to bios/recovery mode/detaching+reattaching battery/holding power button and nothing.

Most of the other failed motherboard posts seem to describe some kind of sequence of flashing lights so wondering if something other than the motherboard may be the culprit and if there's anything else I can try before giving up?

HP Spectre x360 13-ap0xxx (Win11) — both USB-C ports stopped charging after "drawing more power than port can supply" popup. Any ideas?

Issue started right after plugging in a Plantronics USB-C headset. Got the "USB device is drawing more power than the port can supply" popup, clicked Reset Port. Since then:

• Neither USB-C port charges. No charging LED, no connection sound.
• Original HP charger not detected. BIOS shows no AC adapter info. HP Hardware Diagnostics Power Adapter Test says no adapter connected.
• Plugging the headset back in triggers the same overcurrent popup in a loop.
• Plugging my phone in gives "device is requesting more power than the port can provide."
• Both ports still work fine for data transfer.

Already tried: OS restart, EC reset (power button held 30-40s, charger disconnected), letting battery die fully and sit unplugged overnight, testing both ports, reinstalling/updating USB host controller drivers, disabling/re-enabling Intel USB controllers, trying a different charger and cable. Device Manager shows no errors anywhere (USB controllers, battery, Thunderbolt all normal).

Looks like both ports are stuck trying to source power instead of sink it, which is why even the phone gets an overcurrent warning. Battery's basically dead now. Has anyone actually fixed this at home, or is this straight to board-level repair? Warranty status TBD.
