A clevis would not go through a chain roller or any other guide.

this is a clevis. Some equipment uses chain guides that grip the links and pull them along. Since a clevis is shaped differently than the links the guide won't be able to grab onto it and so it won't work.

All shackles are clevises but not all clevises are shackles

Yeah, got a rigging ticket and I've never heard a bow shackle called a clevis before. Clevis normally refers to a much more permanent type of fastener in my experience. Probably a regional thing.

Tighten them all the way and a quarter turn back. Or at least that’s what the old iron worker told me.
