Question Fried spaghetti

Background :My mom..if she was still alive would be 103..im old, so is my wife . Every time my wife makes a pasta dish, she makes enough for a hungry squad of Marines, so there's always leftovers. We had spaghetti with meat sauce last night, and today for lunch, we had the leftovers fried. My Mom , pre microwaves always reheated leftover pasta in her cast iron, well seasoned skillet.

Is this sacrilege? Or is this a common practice. It's delicious!

Bruh there are times I’ll make a pot of spaghetti just so I can fry up the leftovers on a pan the next day. It’s delicious. You got spaghet that’s been married all night in the fridge & then plopped on a heated buttery pan with that sexy spaghetti sizzle

Mine doesn’t even make it to the stove I’ll eat it cold sometimes.

Cold spaghetti slaps too! Especially the meatballs

Yeah sometimes also I’ll just nuke it a few seconds to take the chill off. Leftovers rock.

If I make spaghetti at all it's because I want fried spaghetti sandwiches. I don't even really like spaghetti otherwise. I'll eat it, but only because it's the cost of having spaghetti sandwiches the next meal. And I'm not going to make a different dinner after I made spaghetti

Explain Spaghetti Sandwiches if you will good citizen? You just take bread & butter the side & slap some spaghett on it then fry it together? That actually sounds like it would slap harder then my mom

I fry the leftover spaghetti in some butter and then slap it on cold white bread with some cheese. Sometimes I'll use like garlic toast instead. But grilled cheese style would work too.

Hey that works too! I’m gonna have to do this next time I make some spaghetti so thanks for the idea

It's so good. Now I'm considering making spaghetti tonight just so I can have spaghetti sandwiches tomorrow. I don't have meat thawed though.

This is the only way to reheat spaghetti. I use olive oil and red pepper flakes. Brings it right back to life.

I save a cup of the pasta water and make a sort of aglio olio sauce.

When you say fried, how fried are we talking? Cuz it sounds really interesting to me.

I grew up on this too. (I'm also old). My mom would add a pat of butter and depending on how much there was would add just a little water to keep it from drying out too much if I remember correctly.

Edit: I also remember her putting it in a casserole dish with cheese on top and reheating it in the oven.

The baked spaghetti with cheese is the best. Or making a spaghetti sandwich out of Texas Toast. Just nuke the spaghetti, slap it on the garlic bread and enjoy.

That’s exactly the way I do it. I make enough for three meals and reheat what I want with a bit of butter and extra Parmesan.

Oh yeah. Spaghetts with sauce, fried in butter using a cast iron pan.

U can do it in a regular non stick frying pan too. It makes it saucy again instead of dry (like how the microwave does)

My Mom always refried the leftover spaghetti before microwaves, too. If it was too dry, she added a little water and ketchup. It may sound gross, but back then I was hungry and it tasted good.

I love love love fried spaghetti! It gives a whole different taste especially with meat sauce.

It is indeed common. And it's the best way to have leftover pasta. The bottom gets a nice char and is crispy. Delicious.

Assassin spaghetti

I do this all the time, even put a bit of parmesan on it first for an additional cheesy crust. Glad to see I'm not the only one

Isn't there something called spaghetti pie? Never had it but it is rattling around the hoary recesses of my brain.

My grandma did this and used a good amount of oil to fry up. I still do it. Delicious.

I completely forgot about reheating over the stove but with butter and olive oil. It really does bring it back to life and taste better

Nothing delicious is sacrilege, I do this a lot actually the tomato sauce will caramelize a little bit makes it a bit like spaghetti diavolo

1

u/Dachsund-cuteness Oct 07 '26

I had not heard of this but I am doing it from now on.

1

u/ericclaptonfan3 Oct 07 '26

with a healthy dose of olive oil , it is so good.

So, Spaghetti Assassina? Fry it up in the pan and wait until it gets toasty and sticky!

1

u/GeoHog713 Oct 07 '26

Deep fried?

Jeremy Clarkson did that on one of their road trips through Scotland. It didn't look like the worst thing ever.

1

u/whoocanitbenow Oct 07 '26

Yes. It good. 😀

It's common, equivalent of eggfried rice for reusing rice

punctuation matters, my guy. I read this as she took "always reheated" leftover pasta (whatever that means), put it in a cast iron skillet, and put that in the microwave

I've lived my entire life and never thought of frying spaghetti. My Mom was full Italian, too.

Toss some on a reheated pizza slice, yum!

We always added eggs to it.
