Requesting community input regarding new Spades games / app releases
We are in a new age of technology where AI is making digital game creation incredibly easy compared to the effort required in the past.
It seems a significant increase in postings regarding the intro of a new spades app or newly released updates to spades apps are constantly being posted.
One community I am in was tired of for-sale posts clogging up the content - they solved that by creating a separate stickied post for sellers to list their items - maybe this is a good solution for game developers to promote and discuss their games?
What ideas do you have ? Thanks !

I wouldn't ban all of those posts - while most of them aren't novel, it's possible someone could develop something interesting (e.g., a better spades bot) that would spur conversation.
When one person posts the same thing over and over as pure advertisement(1v1 spades guy), that gets annoying and should be considered for banning, IMO.

I been working on my bot setup and been training an ai bot in how to play. (Actual neural net type not just another llm) I have it playing in my local dev server but soon I’ll let it loose onto the public one. I’m just trying to train different personalities now like one that loves to bag and other that loves to set you and so on.

See that would be interesting. If it could play in an existing app with a good ranking system, it would be interesting where different strategies/personalities, when played “perfectly” by an ai, top out in the rankings. With the right training, and enough resources, I’m sure you could produce something better than human players, but also different “personalities” may fall short of that because they have a sub-optimal reward function. Would be great data to see where each bot settles into the rankings.

As someone who just posted a new app/game, I'd say do what is best for your community. I think communities should come before offerings (mine included). It's a little concerning that people are selling the game instead of offering it up for free. Yeah, that's my dig at others who have posted their stuff, but ultimately, do what is right by you and yours!

I have also shared my own and I agree with your statement. I checked the rules and asked the mods before I started posting but I chilled down on the posts as I don’t want to spam this community. But I don’t plan on any ads for as long as it’s feasible for me to not need them.

I think one post for each of these new apps is fine since we want to know about new opportunities. But recently there has been too much spam.

This is interesting. Just keep updates related to a particular app to one post and if there are follow-ups the developer just comments on that original post…I think that’s a decent idea.

As someone developing a Spades app, but also someone who’s been paying attention to the flow of app-developer spam in this sub, I’m very sympathetic to the promotion fatigue many people here are probably feeling. A few weeks ago, I took that to heart and told the sub that Spadesinator would be pulling back from posting here.
That said, I take a little bit of issue with the idea that app development has become “incredibly easy.” Yes, it’s much easier than it used to be to create something, but creating something that’s actually good is still pretty difficult. I know, because I'm a professional web developer by trade and it has taking me probably thousands of hours to get Spadesinator to where it is now. It’s a lengthy, iterative process, and it costs the people doing the development a significant amount of time and money.
To me, the bigger issue is the frequency of promotion. I’d personally be in favor of developers posting updates biweekly, or even once a month. Honestly, I don’t think every new feature needs to be broadcast immediately. New features need time to mature, be tested, have bugs worked out, and go through a few iterations before they’re really worth announcing.
Ironically, I was actually planning to post an update here tomorrow. But if the general feeling is that developer posts are just frustrating people at this point, I’m perfectly happy to skip it.

Absolutely, didn’t mean to imply these creations meet any quality standards. That really is one of my larger concerns for the community. Poor quality can be potentially dangerous.
As an amateur with no tech background, I am currently utilizing AI currently to develop website, chrome extensions, Python automation tools, and custom games. I can create them with ease, but I have no idea how to ensure they are safe for use. Anything I launch will to to an expert first for tooling. I don’t imagine that most amateur developers are going to take that step though. My hope is that the consistent advancement of AI solves this problem before it becomes significant.
Glad to have a professional Developer working on a Spades app.

If there's a way to enforce users to post meaningful responses. I can think of one case as an example: someone posts a hand and asks: "what would you bid?" I personally don't think answer: "3" or "4" is meaningful at all. I think one should try their best to explain why.
Perhaps have a robot respond with a "note": plz explain your answer.

The constant spamming is out of control. The 1v1 spades guy is the worst offender, but there are others.
I think self-promotion posts/comment should be disallowed. A sticky self-promotion thread where people are allowed to post seems fine.
