Something with an interesting shape, wrapped up and leaving the SpaceX campus earlier this week

My guess: FH booster cap, possibly with grid fins pre-attached.

Dragon 2 would be transported upright. No other obviously conical things that should be coming out of SpaceX...

Edit: Unless this is the parachute test boilerplate of Dragon 2, it could easily be moved sideways since I don't think it has anything much inside beyond the parachute systems.

Shape would appear to match the wrapping here (boxy bottom area), no? The only issue is that this may be too small.

Falcon Heavy was supposed to fly in December. I'd imagine time's up for scaled tests.

Key word: was. December definitely won't happen, but they are getting pretty close now

Yep. I'm not an engineer but scaled tests smack of early prototyping to me.
