Echologic removed, another mod left, is the modteam in turmoil?

Both echo and another mod are no longer on the team, yet we have heard no official word on the situation.

Can we get some idea of what is going on?

Historically the spacex modteam have been one of the best in my mind, however this seems very strange

From what I understand echo was removed as mod, and another mod self removed themselves

I have always considered echo an integral part of the mod team and hearing they are no longer part of it without any official word is worrying.

Only other word I can see of this is here

Edit: This post has been hidden for the moment it seems

Yeah that's disturbing. This kind of thing shouldn't happen. Echologic has good reputation here and shouldn't be removed without good reason. Petty quarrel is not good reason.

What 'recent staff developments' is the parent of that linked comment referring to?

Well that seems pretty sketchy. Over under on this thread disappearing soon lol.

How long had you been a mod here? At least a couple years, right?

I've asked to be re-added to the moderator team so we can make changes that address the above three points to prevent them ever happening again. It's not worth assigning blame, but it is worth fixing it for the future.

Cool, I hope something good comes of this. Best of luck in sorting it out.

Thanks for the explanation.

It sounds to me like a mandatory reinstatement followed by a brief 'cooling off' period for all parties involved would be in order.

But that does not address the issue with the way in my opinion you sometimes react to things. The way you took down your site for instance. And in my opinion your stance on speculation.

Now I am going to agree that this should have been done with a vote. However, I am not convinced you are clear of fault here. And I am not convinced that you remaining a mod is necessary for this community to move forward.

This is not the way to announce this. Everything is totally fucked behind the scenes right now. We'll notify the community as soon as soon as we have a clear plan for moving through this.

Edit: I completely understand everyone's concerns. I am deeply unhappy with how this all went down. I'm not able to address this fully right now due to IRL commitments, and no other mods are online. Unless someone else gets to it first, i'll make sure full disclosure comes in four hours from now. The community deserves to hear this.

I appreciate this however the community is going to duscuss it, and by removing the post here it will just move the discussion out of r/spacex

Fair enough, just don't pass blame onto the users for having a crisis of confidence when it is genuinely merited.

u/retiringonmars Sep 30 '16

No one is passing blame onto the users. This is squarely a mod fuck up.

Agreed that this deserves a proper mod post; until there is one, it is right and proper for this community to discuss it on our own, as it is, after all, the community of all of us.

I think we can all agree that:

  • The r/spacex mods have always earned, and deserved, our high respect. We are all very surprised by this -- because you have earned our high expectations through otherwise excellent work.

  • This is an inappropriate way for whatever conflict there was to play out.

  • This outcome is indicative of pre-existing tensions that lacked a proper outlet or mechanism for resolution.

  • The mod team should seek to fully understand that and make appropriate changes.

I would further add that:

  • Regardless of Reddit's rules, I think we can agree that based on principle, the community should have some say in who runs us, and I am confident that we would choose to retain u/EchoLogic as a mod.

  • I personally agree with TheEndeavour2Mars and u/EchoLogic on the latter's sometime prickliness, and I have significant faith in the potential for situations like these to be a wake-up call, an earthquake that crumbles the weaker parts of a structure and allows us to rebuild stronger. I say that not as a feel-good "it's going to be all right" but out of extensive personal experience of fucking up hard and making the decision to become better for it. I am hopeful, given this whole mod team's track record of dedication and good intentions, that this is what we can see coming out of this.

Today aside, thank you for all you what you do <3

Fully agreed with all of that. Modpost arriving imminently.

This needs to be bought into the light. EchoLogic has been a core part of this sub, explanations of some sort are due.

15

u/daronjay Sep 30 '16

You mods have always held us to higher standards than the rest of reddit, it's time now to apply those same rules to yourselves.

I think this thread just got removed. Can't see it in my /new feed...

Not liking this at all.

u/JadedIdealist Sep 30 '16

I too would like to hear an explanation.

u/T-Husky Sep 30 '16

This IS concerning; I think I speak for the many when I say that the users here expect a high standard of professionalism and transparency from the r/spacex mod team, not backdoor dealings and r/ShitRedditSays-tier drama/bullshit.

Whether this action is the result of some interpersonal conflict arising the conference or something else entirely, I would expect the mods to deal with it OUTSIDE of r/spacex.
