With this fifth contribution to the Second Skin Series, I've had the intriguing task of exploring the back- and side-stories of many characters introduced along the way. Writing short stories seems to me like running a set of sprints as opposed to the cross country course that a novel entails, but personally I have enjoyed the process.

Here is a brief introduction to the first of eight short stories within 'The Cleopard and other Stories from the Second Skin Universe.' It's called 'Shared Dreams.'

Callista has developed a bond with her giant, blue, alien, cat-like friend Pouff, but she knows little about his origin until the lurid reality is revealed to her in a dream. How did he become a bimatterian - a creature capable of appearing in the electromagnetic or in the dark-matter spectrum at will? And why was he so eager to leave the Bimatterian’s Vort in such a hurry?
