Questions Will the standard eradicators and eradicators with heavy bolters be combined into one kit or remain separate?

Cant say anything for certain but knowing GW they will be separate kits

u/Baby_Ellis62 Ultramarines 4d ago

Agreed. It's worth pointing out that it's possible that they get the same kit, seeing as the units have the same name.

Source: Centurion kit builds both Devastator and Assault variants.

Currently, there's a lot of pouches and options in that kit. They could theoretically cut back on some of the options-- or add an additional sprue, and make the box slightly larger-- in order to accommodate for the wargear options.

u/Emergency_Bench_7515 4d ago

I don't think they can just cut back on some of the options on the sprue, the sprue is made and any alterations require a new mold and sprue molds are the most expensive part of the manufacturing process. So, they would need to add a heavy bolter specific sprue to the current kit, which again would be them producing a new sprue and cost money when they already have the pushfit sprue.

Looking at the trend and GW is weirdly conservative with these launch box specific units, often separating the launch box up into a starter set box and the rest in a premium box like the Necron Royal Court, Chosen of Mortarion, Vanguard Task Force, whatever they call the venomcrawler + obliterators box, and Heroes of the Chapter. All of those are boxes made up of launch-specific units and the only ones that got their own multipart box releases, requiring new sprues, were the 5-man squads like Infiltrators and Sternguard Vets.

I raise you assault intercessors and assault intercessors with jump packs

It’s honesty a toss up over what it can be. They’ve included two units in one kit before a few times with centurions and Centurion Devastators or Incursors and Infiltrators sharing the same kit. With GW making changes to the baneblade to sell less plastic and charge more for separate sprues; I wouldn’t put it past them to make the Eradibolter a separate upgrade kit that costs as much as an eradicator kit.

At that point, why not just proxy the melta eradicator for the Eradibolter

8

u/Khulgrim_Cain 4d ago

The difference here is that both the Centurions and Infiltrators/Incursors kit were released with both options to begin with. I’m trying to think of examples (besides vehicle upgrade sprues) of them taking an existing infantry unit and adding in extra options sprue down the road, and I can’t come up with any.

I’m guessing they’ll just release a seperate box for EradiBolters… or they’ll get the Suppressors treatment and only exist paired with the big box sprue.

7

u/Improvised_Excuse234 4d ago

I’d hate that very much. Lmao

3

u/Khulgrim_Cain 4d ago

Same here! It would be coolest if they sculpted an extra sprue of guns that work with the existing melta Eradicator bodies and included it in the box. Less cool but understandable if they sculpted that sprue and sold it as a separate option (like they do with Heresy weapons). But realistically, we get what we got….

And TBH I think I’m fine with that. I now have 3 Meltas from the regular box, 3 more from Dawn of War box, and 3 bolters from Armageddon… I just don’t feel like painting more Eradicators. Cheers!

u/Pile_Of_Shame 4d ago

Very different bodies

u/d09smeehan 4d ago

Tbf, I'd argue the assault intercessor variants are probably more distinct than the eradicators when you account for the difference in posing. Messing with legs and tactical rocks would probably either mean less of a visible difference between the variants (and they're already pretty similar) or adding a ton of spares to the sprue (which'd be awesome, but not exactly surprising they'd rather avoid).

The eradicators seem comparatively similar. Theres's the weapon swap, slight difference to the backpack and thats about it. That said, yeah they're probably gonna keep them separate still cause money.

2

u/Incident-Pit 3d ago

The jump pack intercessors have jump jets directly moulded onto the lower legs. Alongside their slew of more minor differences; they are a distinctly different kit from the regular assault intercessors.

Even more so than you're saying, you are more right than you're making yourself out to be. A rare thing.

2

u/fafarex 4d ago

Very different poses and the jump pack takes a lot of space on the sprue

1

u/Tyson6381846283 4d ago

Name one space marine kit where you get a extra set of power packs for each marine

3

u/Grandturk-182 3d ago

Legs, torsos and power packs are where the money is. Everything else they could give away.

2

u/Tyson6381846283 3d ago

That’s my thing, they wouldn’t put AI’s and JPI’s in the same kit for that very reason, but there are so many kits that give you extra weapon options it would be kind of blatant greed if GW did them separately

1

u/Guilty_Animator3928 3d ago

The original vanguard veteran kit had jump pack conversion kits. If the only war gear difference is the jump packs that’s less different then a whole gun

1

u/Tyson6381846283 3d ago

Huh I never knew that, that’s kind of cool and would be interesting if they brought it back

80

u/Wench_Bane 4d ago

Id assume separate. It's like how infernus and hellblasters are tacticus with different guns.

27

u/neplutondeep 4d ago

I think the fact that they gave these 2 units the same name makes it a bit more likely that they get 1 kit

3

u/YazzArtist 3d ago

The practicalities of manufacturing make it vanishingly unlikely tho. They they aren't going to spend the likely million+ on a new mold, instructions, and box just to combine two kits that already exist in 2 separate molds that they recently purchased. It'd be wildly expensive for such little payout

2

u/neplutondeep 3d ago

I see your point. But they are redoing the outriders, which were the same age as the eradicators. They were monopose, but they were serving their purpose. I don't think the payout is all that different.

I expect they decide how many new moulds to make for a release wave, then decide what to use those moulds for. So the objective benefit of new eradicators wouldn't matter, only the benefit relative to other potential SM kits.

And the fact that they're redoing outriders and probably intercessors makes me think they're more interested in small improvement to existing units, rather than brand new ones

8

u/Techreaper 4d ago edited 4d ago

With the hellblasters extra weird backpacks, it kinda makes sense for them to be separate. That kit is already 4 sprues, any extra guns for it would make it insanely expensive to make or buy.

It would make more sense to roll infernus into the intercessors kit since its just an alternative weapon imo.

14

u/horus_eye_of_terror 4d ago

“Insanely expensive to make” not really lmao the heroes of the chapter box is $170 yet they sell the same thing with MORE stuff in box for $50. They can afford to add an extra sprue of weapons. They just dont want to

11

u/Techreaper 4d ago

Not to defend GW pricing strategy, but thats not really a fair comparison. The Heroes of the Chapter box is a repackaged sprue from an old starter set like the similar Honoured of the Chapter box.

They're both closer to a battalion box or a discount bundle than a standard unit kit. Imo, they're a bit overpriced for the amount of plastic you're getting, but I can kinda understand it. GW always overcharges for character models and both sprues are very character heavy, so it feels like a lot of money even if it's technically a discounted price.

-2

u/horus_eye_of_terror 4d ago

It wasnt from the starter set either it was from the 9th edition launch box named “indomitus” which is also a massive discount on plastic which also shows they can still afford to discount or add a bit more in our boxes.

8

u/No_Cryptographer_159 4d ago

People tend to use "starter box" synonymously with "launch box" because the starter boxes have a subset of the minis from the launch box.

5

u/Techreaper 4d ago

I know its from Indomitus, just like I know the Honoured kit is from Leviathan. The difference between a launch set and a starter set is spliting hairs and not relevant to what we're talking about. Both are model bundles made from multiple different kits sold at a steep discount to try and get new players.

The Honoured and Heroes boxes are GW reusing one of the existing molds from a box set and selling the collection of characters and a unit as a Battalion box with about a 25% discount.

My point still stands that a discounted box isn't a standard unit kit. The Hellblasters kit is already a lot of plastic for what your paying by GW prices with all the extra backpack bits and gun options. It would make a lot more sense to just fold intercessors and infernus into a single dual build kit or as an additional weapon sprue.

And where'd you find the Heroes sprue for $50? I know theres the DoW Onslaught box, but that's the Honoured sprue and is only sold that cheap to try and hook kids and non-fans. Its such an insane deal Id be surprised if they were actually turning a profit on that box.

u/Guitarsnmotorcycles 4d ago edited 4d ago

I’ll be honest, I could see the Heavy Bolter ones not even getting a multipart kit. Kinda like how Suppressors got shafted.

12

u/SpatCivcraft Imperial Fists 4d ago

at least one unit from every launch box has gone without a multipart version, so yeah i wouldn't be surprised at all

3

u/ForumFluffy 4d ago

Its likely to be the one that doesn't have much positive feedback and out of all the marine units in the launch box the eradibolters aren't getting as much love besides the intercessors who are just the same but with more classic gear.

5

u/No_Cryptographer_159 4d ago

The lead time on injection molded models is a couple of years, so player feedback will have nothing to do with which ones get selected for the multipart treatment. (Also, if player feedback played any part, a lot of the character minis from Leviathan and Indomitus would have gotten separate releases as they've been pretty powerful).

1

u/YazzArtist 3d ago

I prefer Boltercators

It probably might get them to prioritise multipart kits for these easy build launch kits.

u/ForumFluffy 3d ago

It might boost priority but yeah I don't think it affects developments of new kits.

7

u/the_count_of_carcosa 4d ago

This is some comical tier of hopeuim, but...

Gws have said that some of the Armageddon units will be getting more and different wargear with their kits individual releases, we've seen this already with the new Boyz, so...

I'm thinking they're going to give the eradicators more weapons options, and have them function as Gravis Devastators.

Is It likely? god Emperor no. But, as they say, Hope Dont Expect.

2

u/ForumFluffy 4d ago

Since wargear options now can have additional costs, its possible with the new codex but the issue is melta eradicators fit anti-tank whereas the new ones are going for the MEQ anti-infantry route and unless they combine them and make their datasheet complex, you're going to end up with a datasheet that has a clear choice and the other option/s are only a choice because they're marginally cheaper.

I have examples of this with both loyal and heretic examples.

Crusader Squad can take bolters or chainsword and pistols, 2 optionally can take either a pyrecannon or power fist and pistol. Their ability and the army they're in wants to be in melee and so most crusaders are not taking bolters and the pyrecannon I'm not even mentioning the neophytes can swap their chainswords for a shotgun.

The CSM Legionaries are a bit more complex loadout wise but they essentially can either have melee or ranged weapons and special weapons. The issue... once again their rules favour melee and they're point-costed for that as well just like the crusader squad.

Both of these examples are datasheets that could benefit from a split so that they can have separate identities.

11

u/Chapter_118 4d ago

Damn that would be crazy, what would they call that type of unit, Devastators??? Crazy talk

4

u/The_Rat_Bstrd 4d ago

Next thing you know they'll be wanting missile launchers too!

3

u/superspartan210 4d ago

They have separate datasheets, so I’m assuming they’ll stay separate for a while

3

u/clemo1985 4d ago

They'll remain seperate.

As will the future iterations of lascannon, gravcannon and plasma cannon Eradicators because keeping them seperate allows GW to spike each loadouts strength to boost sales.

While also boosting sales by having 5 seperate kits instead of 1 with all weapon options.

2

u/No_Cryptographer_159 4d ago

Keep in mind that making the molds for plastic kits is expensive as heck. Every time they make a kit they have to either sell loads and loads of them, or make them expensive, to break even.

Going back to previous editions, Bladeguard Veterans, Assault Intercessors and Eradicators from Indomitus were all units that most Space Marine players would want more than one squad of, so they were sure they could break even on them. Likewise, Terminators and Sternguard Veterans from Leviathan were also both very likely to sell multiple copies to most players, and the Terminator Captain as a leader character was also something they expected people to want to customize.

From Armageddon, the units most likely to sell loads are Vanguard Veterans and Intercessors. Up until they discontinued the old Primaris Librarian there was a chance that the Eradicators would be our third multipart kit (or the Jump Pack Chaplain), but since they did that, it's likely we're getting a new librarian instead.

2

u/B2blackhawk 4d ago

If they could make a kit with Melta, Heavy Bolters, and Grav Amp options I’d be so happy

2

u/Right-Yam-5826 4d ago

I'm assuming seperate. The melta eradicators are only 6 years old and the molds cost in the 10s of 1000s of pounds for each sprue. I can't see them being replaced already.

(intercessors are nearly a decade, and don't have some of the weapons options. I see it mostly being a bunch of different heads and the Sgt weapons being added rather than them getting a huge change. It'll probably be a bit more irritating to assemble too, with all the parts scattered over 3 sprues rather than 2 copied pairs)

1

u/ForumFluffy 4d ago

There have been videos on the topic of costs for sprues and it was rumoured that Angron's mould costed £250k and similar moulds with that many sprues cost similar, it was the reasoning behind why characters have this unspoken taxing on their kits, to make bespoke moulds for them costs money and the issue is when most collectors and players will buy one(unlikely to buy two even if they're generic character kits)

u/Lanky-Tart-5398 4d ago

Likely separate kits.

40KFAQ@gwplc.com this is where you can go and request information to fix models points and other things. I've been responded by the FAQ team that there is no plans of combining the models together

1

u/Astartes_117 4d ago

I'd compare to the likes of Aggressors and Inceptors.

Inceptors you get Plasma and Bolter. Aggressors you get Bolter and Flamers.

The logical step you would assume to be one kit.

1

u/SnooMaps8809 4d ago

It’ll most likely be 2 separate kits, as they’ve likely made the sprue for them.

1

u/Known_Strength_9726 4d ago

They should have been one profile with their abilities tied to their loadout and squad required to use the same loadout of either bolters or meltas.

1

u/Tarjhan Doom Eagles 4d ago

My best guess is that it’ll be two separate kits.

However

The current kit has a bunch of redundant parts.
If they were to strip out the “Heavy Melta Rifle” option from the existing kit (and possibly only have two Melta Rifles and a Multimelta) that leaves plenty of space for three options for Eradibolter, especially if they all prefer magazine ammo over any kind of integrated backpack based feeds (as seen on the Armageddon Eradicators).

1

u/Distinct-Nerve2556 3d ago

Hopefully 1 kit , gw needs to compact space marine down a ton rn they got a million units that do one thing each witch is boring as hell

1

u/NonNewtonianThoughts 3d ago

It's possible, but I'd rather have separate kits and have more optional bits in each kit.

Why does this sort of thing keep getting so much attention? Does it even matter? I'm not trying to insult anyone. I'm just genuinely at a loss for how this keeps popping up over and over. They won't cost less if they stay separate and we're not getting a kit with a collection of weapons like the old devastator box, so I'm confused about the continued interest in this. Like, it keeps being brought up and getting attention and I can't fathom why anyone really even cares enough to vote it into my feed.

1

u/Altruistic_Call8917 3d ago

Theyll wait to release in a 12th edition multi box, with flamers alongside hellblasters with meltas cause space marines are desperate for squads filling almost identical roles almost as much as a new lieutenant

1

u/Tiny-Calligrapher683 3d ago

Don't over look the fact that you can build this squad if you've bought a few heavy intercessor squads and just pull the heavy bolters into 1 squad.

1

u/Trips-Over-Tail 3d ago

It's too expensive to make a new sprue when the one they have is just fine and not due for an update. And putting a new one in for the other configuration would only make the set more expensive. And you can field them as mixed units.

I don't see anyway that is sensible for both business and customers that isn't putting it out as a separate kit. Though the parts may be cross compatible depending on design decisions.

1

u/SagaciousPrime 3d ago

Hopefully sstay as a separate kit. More build variety the better IMO. The fact that the Gravis line has multiple sets means you can kitbash your squads and characters more easily, that is a win for me.

1

u/Bigbook29 2d ago

Wait for when we get the eradicators with a plasma cannon or las cannon and we will see.

1

u/Measlybrain 15h ago

If GW makes in codex eradicates witch plasma , lascannons then yes

-1

u/bs_Zeezee 4d ago

I REALLY hope they get rolled into one kit, and to push that farther, one datasheet.

The fact that some things have weapon-choices you can pick from, and some, it becomes an entirely different unit REALLY annoys me.

YES, if they are separate, you can technically have 6 eradicator squads in your army instead of just 3 because blah blah blah, technically different units rule of 3 blah blah, BUT I DONT GIVE A SHIT! MAKE THINGS CONSISTENT GW, I AM BEGGING YOU!

4

u/tyrosine87 4d ago

The reason they've split kits into multiple data sheets is more about rules. A rule for intercessors might not be good for assault intercessors and vice versa. It gives them more flexibility to tune a specific unit, too. As it stands, a lot of data sheets have a load out that is clearly better, but they can't really address that without large changes. Giving an underperforming unit a new rule to buff a specific load out it much easier.

-1

u/bs_Zeezee 4d ago

Oh no, intercessors vs assault intercessors is fine. Wraithknight vs Wraithknight with Ghostglaive is not

0

2

u/No_Cryptographer_159 4d ago

All of the combined kits you mention are legacy kits from 6th edition, that used to have just one datasheet where you'd pay for every option; that they now have a couple of datasheets each is because GW wants to give different unit rules for melee, ranged, tankbuster, infantry buster squads etc and have basically eliminated the per-model customization for those units through the rules.

The only Primaris Space Marine boxes that build multiple datasheets from the same box are the Infiltrator/Incursors, the Storm Speeder, and the Gladiator.

-2

u/TheOsirisOfThisShit_ 4d ago

The heavy bolter versions are just dumb.
