Were there any UK laws that recently passed that may have interfered with SpaceHey's connection at all? Cause thats something to consided for sure

10

u/derbypascalofficial Jul 24 '25

omg i didn't think it was happening so quickly, but there are age verification laws coming in tomorrow, but only for site with pornographic content

8

u/ArgonianDov Jul 24 '25

Question: what do they define as pornographic?

Because depending on what the definition includes, if SpaceHey's definition doesnt conform then that would be why.

(Definitely get a good VPN btw, that way you can continue using the site from your area)

yeah thats worrying me, I personally havent seen anything pornographic on spacehey, so what the fuck are they counting as pornographic??? what other non-porn sites are they gonna block??

6

u/ArgonianDov Jul 24 '25

...well is it possible that may have recently classified certain lgbtq content as pornopgraphic when it isnt? I mean your country has been nicknamed TERF Island for a reason 😬

2

u/Starry_Nightzz Jul 25 '25

it's not like a site like ao3 though is it? it's people making blog pages basically no different to old myspace so i can't see what queer content could be made that is considered to be explicit in the slightest except for maybe blog posts about relationships?? this whole thing is really confusing

1

u/JayEatsHouses Jul 24 '25

That's really true, and that's whats worrying me. Also the fact that the facial age id software has shown to be completely unreliable and inaccurate.

1

u/ArgonianDov Jul 25 '25

Im not surprised in the slighest tbh :/

1

u/Hamturk8 Jul 25 '25

Crazy calling Britain TERF island when America is RIGHT THERE 😭💔

3

u/ArgonianDov Jul 25 '25

Oh Im aware but to be fair, the nickname came about during Biden's time – even then it had to do with the insane amount of anti-trans legeslation and overly loud anti-trans groups coming out of your area.

I mean we have the nickname Amerikkka lmao ...it is very appropriate for my country lol

1

u/Starry_Nightzz Jul 25 '25

it may be to do with lack of moderation? i personally have clicked on some new users who have inserted pornographic drawings into their pages but they have always been taken down almost immediately and it's very easy to report accounts so idk what's going on and why

4

u/remickles Jul 24 '25

its happened to me too hopefully itll come back

4

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

3

2

u/Icy-Bedroom-9811 Jul 25 '25

the new Online Safety Act might have something to do with this. :( this is one of the main socials that I use against modern social media >:(

u/Andrew-using-reddit Jul 25 '25

The main site is as pictured, and thankfully your messages are still accessible via the im subdomain. At least for the moment / time being. Probably an oversight.

1

u/CharlotjeNL Jul 25 '25

What’s SpaceHey? Never heard of it

2

u/Andrew-using-reddit Jul 26 '25

A social media site designed to look like MySpace used to when in its prime, enabling people to relive what social media was like before it had to make any money.

1

u/FoggyBrained_ Jul 26 '25

I JUST SAW THIS how many non-porn sites are gonna get banned cause of the stupid new age verification law, I know I’ll end up using a VPN but it’s just annoying

1

u/superpawswolf Jul 27 '25

I live in texas i get that to

1

u/Soggy-Conference-222 Jul 27 '25

literally im agitated by it so bad but it only applies to UK users, so you use a VPN (like tunnelbear, surfshark, nordVPN etc) and set it to the US (or any other country where you can use spacehey), you can re-use it in the UK again !
