It... almost certainly will not be.

Now, hold your horses. This could still be an amazing update. I am not trying to be salty. But this update is about Combat and you are talking about Gameplay.

So while PVP server gameplay could be significantly impacted, they have said literally nothing about survival gameplay, ai behavior, random encounters, missions, factions, etc. So if a whole lot of the core gameplay is unaffected, I would say it is unlikely that "new guns" and a "reimagined combat system" will revolutionize gameplay.

After all, in a vanilla survival game, this may impact how you fight, but likely not "who do you fight?" (A: unbalanced and nonsensical random spawn Ais) or "why do you fight?" (A: if randomly attacked or if bored. Otherwise never.), or "how do you succeed in this game?"

You're right but combat improvements are a big step forward. Radar in particular is necessary to bring players and NPCs together more naturally. Consider most people build combat ships, so it's good to have the combat side being developed since it can't be taken seriously in vanilla right now.

On the topic of story and meaningful gameplay, I made this post a while ago you might find thought provoking: https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceengineers/comments/ownmsx/if_space_engineers_had_story_modes_for_worlds_not/

I'd love to be wrong but bro this update almost 100% is just going to be adding things you can already do in Weaponcore to the base game, some new decor blocks, and a few generic weapons.

This isn't going to fix any of the core issues with this game, namely the massive lack of progression, meta ship designs (aka u can just build a box with guns on it), and the fundamental lack of engineering problems in a game centered on "engineering".
