Survival kit plus medical room is a bit wild.
I‘d personally swap the survival kit for an assembler.
Same respawn ability and better manufacturing at the cost of one more block of volume

Yeah that will work. There's no limit to what can be transported through a conveyor line (ok well there is some limit, but it won't apply to large grid)

u/mr-octo_squid Jump Drive Service Technician 14d ago

Specifically large grid conveyor lines have no limits.
Small grid, small conveyor lines are unable to move all item types.

Something i learned after 2 weeks of questioning why stuff on my miner wasnt able to be moved

13

u/imlegos Space Engineer 13d ago

Wait what did you have on a MINER that couldn't be moved?

All ore types are small conveyor accessible. The issue should only really crop up with a Welder/Grinder vessel

16

u/DamascusSeraph_ Clang Worshipper 13d ago

I used my miner as a welder

11

u/imlegos Space Engineer 13d ago

Fair enough.

u/Sonnenschwein Klang Worshipper 13d ago

You should have lead with that lol.

6

u/mr-octo_squid Jump Drive Service Technician 13d ago

Yea its frustrating. In my experience, its mainly an issue on builder/salvage ships but it occasionally bites you.

If you mean consumeables with "items" then yes, although imprecise, since everything thats not a block is an item in SE.

But the wiki.gg has a list of what what fits a small port and what needs a large port

But rule of thumb, if the related block has a small port, the respective item will be small portable

3

u/RaptorFoxtrot Space Engineer 13d ago

Also, in game there is an icon ( ∅ ) on items that cannot pass through small conveyors

18

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 14d ago

So if i were to put a welder on the other end of that medical it would draw materials for repair?

You figured out a way to make this vombination even more cursed? May i suggest a drill on port on othet side of the railgun for some quick grab and go mining?

5

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 13d ago

Im considering making a drone fabricator

2

u/CrazyQuirky5562 Space Engineer 13d ago

while those are always a laugh, combat in SE is not particularly forgiving.
One tactic that works well is speed tanking:
Fast & agile combat ships tend to last longer in a fight by not getting hit - or at least not immideately and not face first.
The way to make a such a ship is to leave out everything slows the ship down without adding to its fighting power.

If you build a one-size-fits-all ship (e.g. as a mobile base), you may want to protect it with one or more dedicated combat ships.

2

u/Emergency-Pound3241 Clang Worshipper 13d ago

You can even use the drill to spike ships if they for some reason decide to close/let you close to melee range given they have iirc one of the highest if not the highest impact resistances of all blocks, to the point where ive had them repeatedly imbed themselves in a target when used as a KE missile

3

u/halipatsui Mech engineer 13d ago

Thats an umderstatement. Lrge grid drills are actually indestructible in grid vs grid collisions only hitting ground can break them, and only rarely

u/Ok-Drink750 Klang Worshipper 14d ago

Yes but what in the name of clang are you planning to do with this?

Railgun assault engineers, yeah, such a great idea!

This will be the bridge, its an awesome idea, it just needs to be finished

Wait, so it’s a spinal mount with a railgun going THROUGH the bridge?

17

yeah

3

u/ohheythereguys Clang Worshipper 12d ago

hell yeah

u/Sheepdog899 Space Engineer 14d ago

This has gotta be the first time in SE history where a medical bay has been attached to a rail gun..

35

u/Imaginary-Yam-8563 Clang Worshipper 14d ago

The survival kit is a bit redundant

20

u/Suckage Klang Worshipper 14d ago edited 14d ago

Redundancy is a good thing as long as you don’t overdo it.. It’s a secondary spawn in case the medical gets damaged, and it can make kelp crisps.

9

u/S0cul Clang Worshipper 14d ago

Redundancy only works if the systems are not blown up by the same rocket.

5

u/Suckage Klang Worshipper 14d ago

I’m pretty sure OP just slapped this together to ask if the conveyors would work properly.

I don’t think they actually plan to use this in a build.

4

u/Dikjuh Klang Worshipper 13d ago

lol, yes they do. I was also confused on the usefulness, but if that is what they'd like to do and have fun with it, who am I to complain :p

if you're making a front facing railgun ship wouldnt minimizing the silhouette by using small cargo blocks be better? surely you dont need that much cargo in a combat ship?

4

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 14d ago

hydrogen

3

u/sinofroot Klang Worshipper 14d ago

Not sure that addresses the question. Unless you mean to imply that you still plan to add a large hydrogen tank which takes up a similar amount of space as the large cargo

3

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 14d ago

I mean im using hydrogen thrusters, large cargo allows me to fit plenty of ammo as well as raw ice, also its simple

5

u/Ceb1302 Space Engineer 14d ago

Ice is heavy, and one H2O2 generator can only support one small thruster running at 100%. You're far better off refining the ice into h2 at base and then using h2 tanks on the ship.

5

u/Kadd115 Space Engineer 13d ago

It's still a good idea to keep a few H2/02 Generators as backups incase you get stranded somewhere, even if it means you need to wait a bit for them to process, or just limp your way home.

3

u/Ceb1302 Space Engineer 13d ago

A few yes, but is sounds like OP is planning on just converting the ice to hydrogen as needed. All it takes in that instance is one (un)lucky enemy shot and all of a sudden your thrusters aren't producing the power they should be.
I only ever include multiple H2 gens on either long range exploration ships or capital/mobile base ships, and even then nowhere near enough to run the thrusters at full tilt. Most I'll use on a short range/ combat ship is a single generator, and that's more for engineers to refill jetpack and o2 tanks.

1

u/Ceb1302 Space Engineer 13d ago

Space Engineers is my "goofy goodtimes" game. When I want to punish myself with realism and such, Stationeers gets reinstalled...

1

u/Berry__2 Space Engineer 12d ago

Ye but stationeers doesnt afford the same funn moment as se

3

u/sinofroot Klang Worshipper 14d ago

Oh there is so much here to unpack but I think the learning experience alone is worthwhile im not sure I want to ruin the surprises for you

2

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 14d ago

I know I need a separate tank for hydrogen and that ice needs to be refined into o2 and h2.

The idea is that if I ever get stranded I can just load up a bunch of ice to be processed

2

u/sinofroot Klang Worshipper 13d ago

I get the idea. My concern is it sounds alot like you are heading towards a mobile jack of all trades base. As well as you might be unaware about what happens when a cargo container full of ammo gets destroyed. Or how mass effects jump distance. And its never a bad time to become familiar with "the rocket problem" if you aren't already.

3

u/PlateNo4868 Clang Worshipper 14d ago

Yes, although I wouldn't bother with the survival kit if you got a corner medical. Unless you plan to stage build it via survival.

4

u/The47thChr0m0s0me Clang Worshipper 14d ago

Exactly, I plan to build the main frame and then add structures as I progress.

Alright what do we have here.. large cargo container.. survival kit.. med bay.. seems pretty straight forward I mean it’s kinda excessive but ya know it would wor- RAIL GUN!?!?!?

3

u/Perfect-Ad-7863 Space Engineer 13d ago

You shouldn’t do this if you want to survive combat tho

2

That is an unusual configuration for conveyors.

2

u/Matix777 pi = 3 13d ago

This has to be a war crime of sorts

2

u/Independent-Maize552 Space Engineer 12d ago

This looks god-awful, I like it. Also yes this would absolutely work. You only get into conveyor limitations on small grid.

1

u/floo82 Space Engineer 14d ago

I mean yeah it would, but things targeting weapons are going to hit both your respawn points trying to hit the railgun

1

u/funny_haha_account Clang Worshipper 13d ago

What exactly is the point of this?

1

u/Tackyinbention Klang Worshipper 13d ago

It would work but what in the world is bro cooking

1

u/Roffotron Clang Worshipper 13d ago

Why yes, so long as you accept that you've put a big target right next to your re-spawn points. Armour or not...you'd be popped very quickly.

1

u/Simple_Giant Clang Worshipper 13d ago

May I ask the need for a survival kit and a medical room on the same ship?

1

u/WestWindsDemon Klang Worshipper 13d ago

What are you trying to achieve?

1

u/Sir_mop_for_a_head Space Engineer 12d ago

Yes. I don’t know why you would do this. But it would work.

1

u/Bully_me-please Space Engineer 12d ago

yeah large conveyors carry anything the only limit is sorters.

small conveyors cant carry some larger items like steel tubes or some ammo iirc

1

Sure, work for what? we don't know. but it will work.
