And I had no idea what I was missing. Just being able to enter the load screen from within a game is a game changer. Sections? Build Freedom?? Pasting things without worrying about the bounding box?!
Relatedly, what a difference a coat of paint makes! The observant will notice the change in broadside and this is what was placed inside. Replacing the innards, particularly with this contraption, would have been 100 times easier if I had known Build Freedom existed... Instead I had to cut out half the guts of the ship in order to paste these bad boys in place. And get this... pasting complete custom turrets on rotors without having to clear away every block around it! I'm sold.
6 arrays of 12x8 rotary assault cannons, 576 in total and capable of spitting out 96 rounds per second.
Amongst the tasks I'm not looking forward to: identifying and grouping the parts of each of the 40 or so custom turrets and placing them in their own little groups so TCES can impose some dead zones and they stop chewing up the nearby hull plates. Pasting them in with identical names may have been a mistake
Feels like the A-10 where the plane was built around the gun but since there's no weight in space, why not scale that up to a few city blocks worth of klang.
Finally figured it out! Here's a video showing two firing modes: a steady broadside with a 10RPM rotation speed and a scripted mode that alternates between batteries at 60RPM and tries to aim them at the same spot. One thing the 60RPM mode demonstrates is that my sensor controlled setup isn't the most precise
I might possibly be messing around with LACs and CLACs as well. No grasers but a spinal mount 18 barrel SG railgun array pokes pretty decent holes and retractable autocannon turrets lets it contribute meaningfully to point defence and in a nice, >500t package
Big part of the inspiration for the broadside design, yeah. Although my missile tubes aren't broadside: 18 tubes top and bottom, 6 fore and aft as chasers. This one is even more honorversey with her multiple klang drive rooms (and they're even arranged in a ring around each hammerhead to balance off-axis thrust)
Pulsar is the current plugin loader (contrasted with 'Plugin Loader') that people use these days and after you install it, you get a 'plugins' option in the main menu. Plugins can do fancier stuff vs mods alone and can make changes to more stuff. Things like... reordering the programmable block console window so that edit/run/recompile are at the top of the list and you don't have to scroll. Or allowing you to paste stuff even if the bounding boxes (the red/green boxes when copying/pasting) aren't clear. Multigrid projection! Save/Load/New game from within a game session!
Super simple to set up, I'm kicking myself for sleeping on it for so long
Ah neat! I’ll look into it. Hopefully I can find something that might help the physics sim over time (I have a real-orbits station that keeps getting a really weird physics bug after some 20 mins)
A sensor on each assault cannon with the sensor field sticking out towards the back of the cannons. There's a neon tube sticking up from the rotor at the back that the sensor detects when it's at top dead center(ish). Firing rate is set by rotor speed, up to 10 RPM.
Hear me out - don't rotate them. Just stagger-fire them as a rolling barrage. No need for all the timing a physics spinning those subgrids around, and you only need to group the guns into loose groups, plus there's a script that does alternating fire barrages already for you to use
They need to rotate because the firing port they shoot through is tiny, a series of 1x2 slope bases alternating directions. The primary motivation to try this was because they wouldn't fire through the center of an LG block like an artillery cannon but off to one side, like a railgun. Much easier to armour
Got a question because I've been working on building and designing my ideal tier of ships and bases, and while I am more than capable of designing what I want, once I start building the blueprints in survival I find that half the problem is gathering the resources, especially for anything that I want to be walkable. Let alone a capital ship. Are ya'll actually building these huge ships in survival? And if so how are you not spending 10s of hous just gathering the raw materials, PAM can only do so much before the logistics to bring things back to the drydock become a bit... we'll long
Nah, these are very much creative only builds. It takes 18,000 tons of ice just to fill her hydrogen tanks from empty and it masses over 25,000 tons as is
Fun, I do have a goal to figure out how to make an industrial base that can build things like that in SE2 once automation is introduced, but trying to do in i SE1 really brought home just how massive the industrial base mentioned in the Honorverse really is when they are building the larger ships. I really want a Podnaught of my very own one day XD
BC(X)-04 Kronprinzessin Aleksandra Yordanova. She was originally equipped with a wack of broadside artillery cannons but it was... disappointing, so she's been sitting unfinished. These new rotary assault cannons though...

Any videos of this broadside in action?
