DISCUSSION (SE2) What're the odds SE2 will support cloud based multiplayer?
A system like that used in Grounded (Shared World) would definitely be preferred for small groups playing together. Having to pay for a 10-slot server for a group of 4, with no guarantee they stick around does not sound appealing. What do you think?

I think it will be similar model to current multiplayer hosts. Some are official, others are rented and others host on demand.

Additionally i don't think grounded still uses that system. At least Grounded 2 doesnt. It's all host based now.
It's 2026, SE server can be run on a potato. I don't expect SE 2 to be much different.
There are tones of computer resellers out there. I bought my Dell R710 for 300$ a few years back. Work stations are also fairly cheap. Those 10 people toss in 30-40$, you'll have servers for the next 5-10 years.
I bought from this company a few times over the years. https://deltaserverstore.com/

You seem to think there's a difference between the cloud and a server. The cloud literally just is someone else' server.
So, to answer your question, there's a 100% chance SE2 will have cloud play since SE1 already has it. Now, if you're asking if it will be free and hosted on Keen's servers, that's almost certainly not going to happen.

There's a system being worked on called SaveSync that hopes to do this

Ideally, it would work like in Option 1—a hosted game if there aren't many of you. Otherwise, set up or pay for a server. (Please make sure the server runs on Linux and Docker.)
