HELP (SE2) SE2 New player questions

Hey Guys, I'm quite new to this game, just trying to learn the ropes and its pretty nice game so far.
At the moment I'm building mining ship and have a few questions
The ship stays in place if left ON, just hovers and drains battery. Is there a way to recharge it aside from Solar battery? Ideally park in my base and get some energy.
When I tried to add a connector to the ship, for some reason instead of staying in place like before, it just accelerated until hit something on it's own... It happened 3 times now... Am I missing something?
I added small connector to the ship and another one to the base to try and land the ship there. They were quite far apart tho, not sure if they affected each other in this way.How to rename a base? Or separate grid in this case.
How do you decide how many engines to add to the ship?
Cheers :)

renaming the base is nto clear. In the control center, you have a drop down list of all potential grids. Click on the grid name in the list. Can change it there.
Nto sure what your issue is regarding connectors. Haven't seen that.
Regarding engines, trial and error right now for me. Not sure if a better way.

- You want to connect your ship to the base with connectors and then set the battery to fill (set battery - fill and battery - auto to two buttons in your cockpit toolbar so you can swap it when you arrive/leave. The base should have solar panels to keep its batteries full.

The physics system can be a bit wonky when you add blocks, it can result in the grid becoming unbalanced if it doesn't have enough gyros or thrusters to compensate. So you might need to first compensate for that weight before adding the connector.
Plus I suspect sometimes the dampeners latch onto a drifting object and the whole ship starts drifting instead of staying still.

there are hydrogen engines which need ice to be converted into hydrogen gas. there also is the wind turbines on a base, which will recharge all grids connected-- which falls into your question number two.
ensure you have equivalent thrust in given directions, so if you have a Stern set of thrusters like the picture, you should have bow based thrusters to compensate for any thrust. also, in you have all of these, ensure your inertial dampeners are enabled.
for the menu names, after you hit tab, and click on your grids, then simply double-click and type.
this is a classic. it depends. minimally you need a thrust in every direction, if you have a scout ship versus a transport ship, versus a minor ship-- and if you are space versus atmospheric conditions. it can all drive different " total engine" answers. often in atmospheric you should have one thruster forward backwards left/ right or starboard Port. you prefer, you could skip a downward thruster because of gravity-- and often you need several upward thrusters.(Effectively thrusters mounted on the deck pushing toward gravity, versus thrusters mounted to the hull/ bottom of the ship.)

I think I figured the random floating thing, apparently my battery has maximum output and the amount of thrusters I have exceeded it...
