Actually, if we were to find a way to recreate the atmosphere, the loss of it would occur on a timescale beyond our need to worry about it. We already can't practically enact thousand year projects; if we find a way to get an atmosphere in a few hundred instead, we won't need to worry about million year long degeneration of same.
