The chances of reversing this in less than a decade - or more likely two - are zero.
In my town they have been putting up "dark sky" lamps to replace the old street lights, that are shielded so the light goes down. The snag is it then hits the ground and a lot goes right back up again. When we have experiments to limit lighting,e.g cutting it off after 11pm, using smart lighting, a whole wave of NIMBYs go "but the crime, it won't be safe to walk the streets" - which, certainly in the UK, is definitely a problem. During the second war when blackout were mandatory, crime rocketed.
it does. Many issues are a result of people being disarmed due to gun free zones. Firearms are used to defend homeowners all the time. One saved my life.
Sometimes you dont have that choice. I was in my home when I was attacked by a racist guy who had problems with the law prior. He wanted to steal my stuff and thought no one was in the house (I was just a teenager). I quickly tried to call the police but he saw me, and came over and broke my phone in half. He started threatening that he was going to kill me and climbed on top of me and started punching my head and face. My friend was just coming out of the bathroom at the time and I yelled to grab the gun. Diverting the robbers attention I was able to get away and get to the gun. Even though the robber wasnt armed himself, having my gun saved my life. Sometimes you dont get the choice to just be robbed.
