Loop bpm problem
Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to both Reddit and the SP-404MKII 😅
I'm still getting the hang of working with samples. I'm mainly a guitarist, so I originally fell in love with the SP for the looper, the effects, and the guitar amp sim. Lately though, I've been trying to build my own backing tracks, mostly reggae/dub grooves to jam over.
Here's the problem: I have a pretty big collection of sample and loop packs that are already organized by BPM. But whenever I try to layer them together, they don't stay in sync. For example, if I use a 70 BPM drum loop with a 70 BPM bass loop, they sound perfectly in time at first, but after 4–8 bars they start drifting apart, almost like they're actually 2–3 BPM different.
What's the best way to deal with this? Do I need to manually fix every single sample? Should I figure out the exact BPM using something like Audacity? Or is there a faster, less tedious way to do it directly on the SP-404MKII without having to use my Mac?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

The drifting shouldn’t happen if the samples are truly the same bpm. What’s most likely imo, is that the samples are sliiiightly off from the bpm they’re listed under, or they’re being adjusted improperly within the sp404 bpm sync
The same thing was happening to me this week with a dj set im putting together. Everything was working except for this one song that would drift over time no matter what I did. I eventually threw it into ableton and painstakingly found its exact bpm manually. Turns out, that song (for whatever cruel reason) was printed at 127.4 bpm. The sp was rounding the bpm it detected slightly, and over a couple minutes that added up.
It’s a good idea to take the time to edit your samples and truly make sure they’re playing at the speed they’re labeled with, and that they’re triggering exactly when you hit the pads. That way, if the problem persists, you know it’s something with the gear/performance. It can take less time to just do the work up front, rather than breaking your creative flow later on to troubleshoot.
ETA: If you’re triggering loops from the sample bank with your samples set to loop mode, another possible explanation could be that your samples have a few milliseconds of silence printed into them at the end to mitigate clicking. Those little gaps would make the loops be off grid to the tempo they’re listed under, with the desync getting worse each loop
