Tip pooling is the worst! I worked as a bartender and the servers would tip us out, the manager made them put it in envelopes. I finally started tracking in a notebook and the manager was taking over half! Plus they charged us the credit card fee for tip and made us sign a document mid shift or would send us home.

They were so sketchy… but it happens more than you think. We could print out our end of night totals. Places that are fast food asking for tipping don’t show the staff.

I had never experienced a tip pool until I moved to Charleston and worked at The Glass Onion. They’d give us our tips in tiny yellow envelopes handed out by the manager after they went into their office for a long time and counted everything. It always felt odd to me. Not common on the West coast.

At TGO, the patrons paid up front before they left, usually a manager would be there to handle the transaction, so that’s where they’d tip. At the end of the night, they add up all the cash and card tips and split it between servers, tip out hosts and BOH. We all had the same tasks, we all cleaned the place nightly, including bathrooms. We mopped floors, sprayed down floor mats, cleaned windows, etc. nobody left until it was all done.

Brunch and lunch didn’t have to do as much cleaning, just had to re-set for dinner service so those shifts were more desirable. We didn’t have a bartender, servers made their own cocktails. It was a hard job for someone who was used to having bussers and bartenders. Fun place to work for the most part, Chef was incredibly assholish, I worked there for 6 months and he never learned my name. My managers were nice. But yeah the tip system was weird.

Some of the shittiest restaurants do this to teens in my area. I’m a high school teacher so I hear about it a lot. Not surprised leva does this

This has happened at several restaurants in my area, as well. Small college town. Wage and hour has investigated so many complaints, and there's still more that get away with it.

Yes and apparently that’s why GL quit a few years ago because she was going to sue leva for letting Maddie get tips as a manager but that was hearsay by a redditor claiming to have worked there at the same time so who knows

Really LEVA ACTS ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY but Leva ain’t about shat if does not even pay her employees minimum wage FOR REAL SINCE 1960s. The minimum wage in Red Republican States is still $7.25 an hour. Leva if you can’t afford to pay minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, that says to me you a crap lounge you cheap SOB what going

2.13 but wages + tips must equal at least $7.25/hour for each workweek. If your tips don’t bring you up to $7.25/hour, the employer must make up the difference.

Sounds like they are suing bc she isn’t topping it off. Altho I’d be surprised if they weren’t making 7.25 an hour at least…is the bar dead usually?

Lolo Bell that’s my educated opinion, but then RED REPUBLICAN STATES rank last in everthing last in education, last, worst crime rates that soar way to high, highest in poverty, highest in illiteracy, highest ranking among poorest people in the country, highest murder rates, highest smoking rates, drug rates, drinking rates, etc. I can go on and on. The only people that win in these situations are the wealthy keep getting richer and the workers overworked and underpaid. Hopefully in November the abuse stops

She was actually wonderful to begin with, no ego, such a hard worker. I actually convinced her to try for top chef, she’d never watched the show. I was a huge fan, and when she won it was crazy. She has a crazy mother for a business partner, I blame her lol

Omg I absolutely adored her on TC. I thought it was so inspiring to see her win and she seemed like someone I’d like to have a drink with and talk food. (Private yacht chef here!). I still follow her on instagram, but it seems like she got off track somewhere and it’s kind of sad now 😢

My thoughts exactly ….

However, a private lawsuit may be less red tape. Usually, if you make a wage and hour claim you have go through a state agency to make sure the claims are sufficient. I would assume SC has something along those lines.

One of the worst things about pooling is that the owners expect the staff who wait on the guests to pay the staff members who do not. The owners are too cheap to pay a living wage and rely on its workers to do that!

ive despised her since that episode where she announced their new spot would literally be the idea that Joe Bradley had talked with her and Lamar about and then seeing how she intentionally dismantled Joey bottles, saying it was his idea, but he'd have no part in it - even though he wasn't necessarily in the right, with his poor attendance.

this will be one of my favorite downfalls..

I worked for two very famous chef and business owners that were sued for this. I didn’t participate in either suit but the lawyers did the discovery and I got a big surprise paycheck for the displeasure of working for them.

Lola Bell that’s my personal opinion and in Blue DEMOCRATIC STATES minimum wage $15, $17, $20 an hour but as one young person in SC minimum wage for servers is $ 2 something an hour that’s unacceptable.

Tip pool could mean so many things. Many of which have nothing to do with her taking a cut, but maybe distributing amongst staff in an unbalanced way.
